5000 members! GU thanks you!
13-06-2008 at 09:19 PM [12 Comments]
Gamers-Underground.com just hit 5000 members!

In the last 6 months we've moved from an average of 40 user account registrations per month to a mammoth average of 400 registrations per month! We've seen the userbase double with 2500 sign-ups since December, and more impressively than that is the number of people in the userbase who are actually "active," who regularly visit and read. That number has grown from approximately 400 users to an impressive 1800.

Some things do remain never-changing, however... Such as Knight's post-count lead, now totalling 14350, and ICDU's 114 page, 2264 post thread record in their private clan forum. Finally, I'm sure Dragon will be happy to know that his Motivational Poster thread has topped our "most viewed" statistic too.

Even though we all miss it, it's perhaps even more-so impressive to remember that much of this growth has been with our games server out of action. Rest assured the server is not too far away from ressurection now, though.

Thanks to everyone who continues to participate with <3, and a big hello to all of our new faces!

Team Fortress 2 updated with medic nerf

Dual-ubering, or tri-ubering, is pretty common place amidst the tactics of top-tier clans, so it'll be interesting to see how things change with this latest patch.
  • Added Custom Tab explanation dialog to be shown the first time the server browser is opened
  • Changed Medigun Ubercharge meter to drain faster for each target that still has Ubercharge beyond your current target. This means there is a penalty for having multiple people being Ubercharged at one time
  • Fixed crouch-jump exploit that allowed players to get outside of the world
  • Fixed bad characters in the chat string when achievements are announced in languages other than English
  • Fixed a few instances of truncated text in the menus and dialogs for languages other than English
  • Fixed problem that was preventing some dedicated servers from uploading gamestats
  • Fixed scoring bug during Sudden Death when the map timelimit is triggered
  • Added the string "(extra slot was added for SourceTV)" when maxplayers is increased for SourceTV

TF2 update addesses map exploits

A rather nifty set of changes here, hopefully removing the ability to shoot through doors prior to round start on Dustbowl...

  • Updated versions of CP_Dustbowl, CP_Badlands, and CTF_Well with several exploit fixes
  • Fixed Linux build not handling FCVAR_REPLICATED and FCVAR_NOTIFY cvars correctly
  • Plugged an exploit where the server could send executable code to the client
  • Fix client crash on exit while processing game stats
  • Updated the Stats Summary screen to remember your previous selections each time you open the menu and while changing levels
  • Added mp_stalemate_at_timelimit ConVar for server admin to allow SuddenDeath when mp_timelimit hits on non-Valve maps
  • Updated CTF mode to remember the player who stole the intelligence from the enemy base and reward that player if the flag is captured by someone else
  • Replace underscores in map names with spaces so custom maps with names like cp_gravel_pit will show as "GRAVEL PIT"
  • Hitting F4 while the tournament mode "Ready" countdown is active won't automatically set a team to "Not Ready"
  • Fixed auto-screenshots not being taken at the end of the map during tournament mode
  • Fixed gates being closed during the pre-round time during tournament mode
  • Fixed GetDynamicBaseline crash
  • Fixed rare animation triggered sound crash

GameArena TF2 ladder recap #5
20-03-2008 at 02:02 AM [12 Comments]
The GameArena TF2 finals are upon us, with the top 8 teams ready to play-off in a series of matches to decide the ladder's first season winner.

In the 5 weeks since last recap, some of the biggest news has been the departure of Jin and Minbari from Egotisitcal. Rumours pronounced Jin as a potential MAD DOG, but it seems he has made his way to the super-strong Symbolic instead. Minbari, unfortunately however, has walked away from Team Fortress 2 indefinately. Zhenjie and Doublethink, previously Heads on Sticks members, appear to have jumped aboard to fill the void, and a recruitment drive could continue.

Hyphen Gaming have split due to what is said to have been caused by internal commitment issues, specifically revolving around a lack of love for the 8v8 format and inability to field a full line-up regularly in light of this. Kinnear is now playing for PnP, and while a small number are also looking for opportunities elsewhere, some of the team have put together a strictly 6v6 side under a different banner, not yet announced.

Without wasting anymore time, let's have a look at the standings and recent matches!

MAD DOGZ seem concreted in 1st with a 14-0 streak. They are clear favourites to take out the finals, with two strong wins against PnP and APR while defending their position.

Symbolic have confidently stepped up in 2nd place, right behind the mighty Dogz, after a 1-0 victory over PnP, 4-0 victory over Hyphen Gaming and huge 11-2 win over Egotistical. Those big wins are seen by many in the community to have prompted both Hyphen's disband and Ego's loss of key players.

Angry Power Ranges, currently 3rd, have continued to perform well, with wins against Clan-A and Fang with Vengeance since the last recap. Rumours of an unavoidable roster shake-up circulate, but are still seen as contenders for a promising finals performance.

Psychedelic Noxious Pugnacity very nearly dropped out of the top 8 with two upsetting losses to Symbolic and Egotistical, but have moved back into 4th thanks to much needed wins against both Clan-A and Fang with Vengeance. A chance of finals victory looks to be an uphill battle, with their first match against none other than the Mad Dogz.

Fang with Vengeance have moved up to 5th with a number of convenient wins, and would have indeed still been sitting higher if it weren't for a discouraging couple losses very recently. Seemingly inconsistant results make some apprehensive, although many still see potential for a huge finals performance if things fall into place for Fang.

Egotistical, now amusingly named Emotistical after their internal dramas, are sitting 6th with a mixed bag of results including the aforementioned win over PnP (4-1) and huge loss to Symbolic. They're without doubt still considered part of Australia's higher echelon of TF2 teams, but it's clear some of the community have begun question their ability of a speedy recovery, and subsequently their chances of note-worthy success in the upcoming finals.

Clan-A have dropped from 5th to 7th since last recap, losing to PnP and APR, tying with the Evil Space Monkeys, and being able to take home just a single yet crucial win against Daemon Vice Eternal. Their first finals match is against Ego which is an unlikely win for the team, but an upset-victory is not out of the question considering Ego's troubles.

Team ACSSL, the team rounding out our top 8 finals group, narrowly slipped in with a 1-0 victory over Z0r Gaming. It seems obviously that other competing teams would have made better use of this finals spot, but the ladder system is what it is, and those teams will have to wait until season 2 despite the brutally honest reality that ACSSL's chances are easily the worst out of the 8 teams moving into elimination stages.

For those wanting to have a gander at the finals time-table and match ups, please head over to the appropriate GameArena forum thread, found here.

CEVO TF2 AU: it's finals time!

The round-robbin is over and it's time for some nail-biting single elimination finals matches.

Group A was comprised of the MAD DOGZ, PnP, Clan Corruption and Adrenalin. Progressing into a play-off match in the quarter finals are MAD DOGZ and PnP, who will play-off for a spot in the semis.

Ya Shit's Weak, with a roster containing a number of VILE players, face the Evil Space Monkeys in their quarter final of Group B.

Hyphen Gaming will take on Fang with Vengance in Group C, who only marginally won their last group-stages match vs the Angry Power Rangers who finished a close third in the group, only just missing out on a quarter final opportunity.

Group D will see egotistical up against RickROLLED, but based poor prior match punctuality and attendance, it does look like ego are set to win this by default and find themselves in the semis without getting their hands dirty.

To have a good look at exactly how the groups wound up, head on over to the CEVO website by clicking here.
