Brink tweaks and fixes

I will continue adding to this as tweaks and fixes are found.

Q. My sound doesn't work?
A. Go into your Steam/steamapps/common/brink/directx, Run DXSETUP.EXE, Let it finish, PROFIT

Q. I'm in Australia, but want to play now instead of in 3 days, like the USA
A. Connect to a USA VPN (such as Strong VPN or Overplay), then connect to Steam, and presto; you can decrypt and play Brink. Once the game is running, you can disconnect from the VPN.

Q. Can I start Brink without running the VPN now?
You can, but only by running it from the .exe directly once you have completed these steps:
1. Go to you're steamapps/common/brink folder
2. Create a .txt file called "steam_appid.txt"
3. Open the .txt file and paste "22350" into it. (without quotes)
4. Save the file

Q. How do I skip the intro movies?
A. Simply rename your assets folder to anything else (e.g. assetsss):
Steam\steamapps\common\brink\base\video\assets

Q. I'm having graphical and stability issues, and own an ATI card
A. Install the latest ATI hotfix which addresses these issues.

Q. Brink is crashing at start-up, how do I fix it!?
A. Disable force triple buffering in your video card driver options (Nvidia Control Panel for example).

Q. How do I open the developer console?
A. Ctrl + Alt + Tide (~). Alternatively, edit your config or add seta com_allowConsole "1" to your autoexec.cfg - this means you just need to hit tide (~).

Q. Where is the Brink config file?
A. Steam/userdata/XXXXXXXX/22350/local/base/brinkconfig.cfg where X is your account identifier, and "22350" is Steam's Brink app ID. This file will be overwritten, create autoexec.cfg for your own custom commands!

Q. How can I setup Brink for ATI Eyefinity/Nvidia Surround/triple screen?
A. You need to edit the following commands to match your setup specifics, and put them into your autoexec.cfg (find your aspect ratio here):
seta r_mode "-1"
seta r_customWidth "5760"
seta r_customHeight "1080"
seta r_aspectRatio "-1"
seta r_customAspectRatioH "16"
seta r_customAspectRatioV "3"

Q. How can I change my field of vision (FOV)?
A. In the console type g_fov XX. Where XX is your FOV; default (and lowest) is 70. Some might be more comfortable with 80-90, but then the FOV dips in/out when using SMART.

Q. How do I show my FPS?
A. com_ShowFPS 1 in console

Nope. Just decrypt with a VPN.

On the VPN side, anyone had issues with Lag playing online this way?

You don't need to keep the vpn running while your playing it, decrypt then disconnect and it works fine. (no idea if that would affect us playing on US servers before it releases tho...)

With the VPN connected it refreshes US servers. Once disconnected, you'll see AU/Pacific servers.

I could be wrong but judging by my experience it looks like you need to login to steam via your vpn every time you want to play otherwise it reverts to pre-launch status and you can't load it up.

You can only disconnect from the VPN once the game has loaded.

its... um... different thats for sure, haven't tried multi player yet, doin so now.

but so far odd and new, so kinda cool and strange.

yeh same issue here Chips, but i read u can create a shortcut directly to the app bypassing the steam pre-load after decrypting, guna test that as well.

Just hit level 13 and unlocked a bunch of stuff. Finished both sides of the story and shiz too.

MP is going to be a whole lotta fun. This game rocks :)

Updated with a way to play without using VPN.

So is there any way to get around the rank restrictions that prevent you from joining lower rank friends in campaign mode ? or have we missed something in the config - messing with "my rank" and "my rank or higher" didn't make any diff either.

I think the rankings only affect online public play (ie; randoms).

If you invite a person, they should still be able to join.

Nah lenko u cant, me and cyphix tried last night, he invites me to campaign co-op i get error "your rank is too high to join this server".

Anyone with HD58XX series cards have issues after installing the "hotfix" from ATI?

I install the 11.5 drivers and brink works, i install the 11.5a hotfix and bring wont even start, roll back to 11.5 no issue.
i only ask cos i have some stutter and minor video lag that im hopping the hotfix will solve.

Might try again tonight with coop. There's an option when ya create a game for coop which lets you have "same rank or higher" which was selected so not sure why it wasn't working.

That trick to unlock games on US release dates seems to work for other games too :) currently unlocking a game due out in a few days.

Be Objective 2 is so fked.
The first time I couldn't even hack the box.
The second time I did it easy; but the bots were pulling each others dicks while I tried to upload the data :/

i had no issue with Be objective 2, its the 3rd star thats pissing me off to no end, the spawn point of the enemy is right where the engineer objective is, and like you say Lenko your "team" is too busy doin there own thing.

well.. you can complete my 2 star Objective challenge at the DGA then Ratty, because I fricken can't and I want the Bulpdaun ;P

Yer i had heaps of troubles too, then i did this. Kill all bots, plan the box run around the corner towards the comand post and hack till half way. stick my head out kill all the bots again then start hacking again.

Is that the second or the third time you do it?

For the second time/map/star just run up to whatever and don't shoot anything, try for the objective and pray. The bots are so stupid half the time they won't notice you're standing right behind them completing the objective.

I nearly got that 3 star one but died 5 feet from dropping off the package with 20sec remaining on the clock. I rage quit that like a mutha f**ka.. lol :P

They either need to increase your teams AI; or reduce the spawn timer on the enemies.
I know it's meant to be a challenge; but the AI is so hit or miss (pun intended) that it's either super easy, or super tough.

u still need to survive 15 seconds while u drop the package :P

Yeah I know which annoyed me cuz I knew that I wouldn't make it after dying :S
