Thread: Ikariam - newbie/beginner tips & help

Well - thought I'd try this out, but don't normally play this type of game. Any tips to get started? Help with distribution numbers (how many to sawmill/research/left to earn gold/etc) - what order to do things?

I'm a tad lost

here's a few basic tips i've picked up, i'm sure some of the other guys who are further than me could tell you more.

1) you'll probably want to max out research at the beginning because there's a few key techs you really need:

wealth: so you can mine your luxury resource
expansion: so you can start a colony
professional army: so you can get phalanx (apparently the best defensive unit til end game)

and most of the other early techs are usefull too.

2) if the market price for your resource is over 8g then it is more cost effective to max out production of it and sell it rather than leave population as citizens, or so my simple calculations tell me. that's assuming there is a market for it though.

that's about all i've got so far

Well digging is well worth getting first up, adds to pop growth, and max population right out.

With my wall:

Defence bonus: 10%
Possible breaches: 1
Attacks that failed at this wall: 0

That mean someone's checked me out? (breach)

no it just means that if someone attacks they can breach the wall in one spot giving them a 10% attack bonus.
