    latency issues

ok with there being official news that all the AION servers are on the east coast of the states, meaning an increase of latency by 50-150 (massive issue in a PVP game) a thought occured to me.

playing wow i used a piece of software to help drop my latency by like 400 called freecap(only seemed to work for internode ISP users, or can someone clarify if they used this for westnet?).

lowerping.com has the info for freecap and wow, and the internode website has a ling to the software d/load somewhere.

i've done some searches and cant find anything like this for AION that is free, i've found a few that make u pay for it, but they ask roughly the same price as your monthly subscription for the game itself, so potentially doubling your monthly gaming costs to get the same experiance as someone living in the US.

    Anyone seen anything?

I used to do this when I was playing.

I was using programs like FreeCap / ProxyCap but we might come accross a problem with the silly ncsoft laungcer...

In the end launching wow through proxycap was a pain and sometimes bugged out I went down the lines of building a linux proxy at home which all intenet trafic went through. If it was data going to any of the wow servers through the wow ports it would bounce it through my slicehost in the states. I had then pings of 250 - 400 max and no lag spikes or noticeable differences to the proxy offered by internode.

I'm going to do this setup again when I remake my linux box again and I'll let you guys know how / what to do.

Internode's wow gateway server (and similar ones like lowerping) was built because of blizzard having a flaw in their netcode, and because they prioritised US traffic over all others.

If aion doesn't do that, then the gateway won't achieve anything.

from what ive read AION seems to have the same "flaw", there are posts on AION source from people that payed to use the system like lowerping during the beta for an improvment of upto 250ping.

not 100% proof i know but worth the thought at least.

I'm guess they wont worry at least untill retail. and who knows what kind of an impact our latency will have?

We will just have to play retail and then make judgements on how bad it is.

if you take a look at this thread you'll understand my worries.
some of the differences will be game breaking for high end PVP if we are vs'ing US players.

yeah i understand what you're worrying about, played plenty of mmo's with shit pings, but all i'm saying is they just wont do anything untill after retail is out, too much on their plate. if you want to ask the dev's, you can directly on twitter, and they do actually reply.

and this issue has been brought up 100 times to NCSoft, so they definately know about it. but if they don't do anything, someone will come up with something and probably post it on the official forums after it comes out.

and what lenko has mentioned before will help with our pvping, about 20ish oceanic legions have all put their names down to roll on the same server, so a massive community will be on the same server, and we will most likely be playing with guys with the same issues.
