Sounds impressive
http://www.psu.com/Massive-Action-Ga...0004236-p0.phpMassive Action Game to feature 256-player online
The final announcement from Sony's press conference at E3 today was MAG, or Massive Action Game. We know what you're thinking...the name isn't exactly original. But the features of the game back up its name.
MAG will feature 256-player online. Players will be split into 8 person squads, and all 256 will battle it out in one world. A trailer showing an extremely hectic warzone was shown with all sorts of weapons including grenades, mounted machine guns and possibly planes too. It wasn't an in-game trailer but then no one knows how far off the title is. The rep from Zipper Interactive said they'd been working on the title for 3 years now.
dang i was hoping they would annouce the death of ps3 due to no money being made!! ohwell..
Why work when you can drink
holy crap....
imgagine trying to get a team together for this kinda of gaming action...
would be a great game to go State vs State...
and squads of 8.. you would need a ranking system in place..
At 1st you don't succeed, destroy all evidence that you ever tried

Sony saved the final announcement of its E3 keynote for a concept using the placehold title of "MAG: Massive Action Game," Unveiled by Andy Beaudoin from Zipper Interactive, MAG — whose trailer looked like "SOCOM set 15 years into the future," according to our eyes on the scene, will immerse players in large online battles of up to 256 players. The trailer featured multiple terrain types, complex tactics, and sounds very much like a SOCOM MMO at this stage.
Character growth will be accomplished through an advancement tree, which allows players to fine tune their players throughout massive campaigns. "MAG will deliver an intense and long lasting shooter experience," said Beaudoin, who also described the game as "a workout even for the PS3 architecture."
More on this title as it develops. No release date was specified. Gallery below.
from my experience at seeing announcements like this, im willing to bet that this game will get scaled down or canceled outright.
imo, i just think its too ambitious. even pc gaming hasn't gone close to having 256 players at a time.
i think the highlight of the conference though was littlebigplanet . i think the audience reaction was the loudest and were impressed at what users have the potential to make.
Watashino Cresta, watashino Cresta, watashino Cresta......OooOOOOOOoOOHHHH MMMYYYY CRREEESSTTAAAAAAA!!!!!!
It could have been a rushed announcement to take some blow off the ff13 coming to 360 announcement :P. Would be interesting to see if this has any effect on console sales considering it's still ps3 only in Japan and the xbox 360 version is going to have a heap of disks :P
They focused on the 8 player squads so its unlikely there's going to be 256 players all in some small area. If it's dedicated servers and the game modes split up the 256 players around the map it could work, and if it does it will ****ing rock.
Sony needs some exclusive jrpg's now. They haven't exactly put out many high quality games for the Japanese market. It's like they have put most focus on creating games for America/Euro and not Asia. Even though that was was market that helped build the Playstation name.

why not? how many troops do you command in RTS games these days? scale one of those up, add a few(hundred) extra control inputs ... i think it'll go fine. Just look at the battlefield series, that supported 64 players years ago. Hardware has come a fair distance since then.
