iv had a xbox360 for some time now and im thinking about getting a ps3 instead.
pros for the ps3
comes with wireless
blueray (not that i use it)
free multiplayer (big selling point for me)
cons for the ps3
dosnt have forza (but has GT)
cant stream my downloaded .avi etc
have many others made the switch from xbox to ps3?
what are your thoughts?
what other cool things can the ps3 do that the xbox cant?
Stream them from my linux box using mediatomb at the moment. But there are lots of other ways (http://www.gamers-underground.com/fo...highlight=dlna).
Picked the PS3 as I wanted to play HD content on my new 1080p LCD (downloaded mkv's and BluRay). The fact it could also play games was a nice bonus (and James' loves LittleBigPlanet).
knight,
i had the same argument about the two consoles, but i settled with the PS3 for the following reasons
1) particular games - MGS4, GT5 etc
2) blu ray player, i've watched a few bluray movies hired from the video shop and they look awesome
3) streaming from my laptop - PS3 - TV
4) i think the 360 has em too, but HDMI connection to my 1080p plasma
if i bought the xbox, i would have bought a ps3 not long after
only reason i wanted the xbox was for gears of war and halo....haven't looked back..
oh, and the PS3 looks SO much nicer next to the TV
Generally best/most exclusive games + best multiplayer platform = Xbox 360.
Best for media use = Playstation 3.
It has been like that since this console generation kicked off, and nothing has changed.
Dude singstar, like best party game ever!
upside, tekken & singstar, downside no gears of war.
The quality exclusives on the PS3 have broadened, don't get me wrong, and it has the lead for "party" games - but the 360 still has the edge. Especially when you consider the number of Playstation exclusives that have now gone multi-platform (Final Fantasy, Devil May Cry and the like).
Its big exclusives are Metal Gear Solid, Gran Turismo and Tekken. Sony's propaganda will try to tell you that Resistance/Killzone are both hugely popular and critically acclaimed IP's that should be in that list... but they're not.
Some that the 360 offers are Halo, Gears of War, Forza, Mass Effect, Fable, Ninja Gaiden, Perfect Dark and Project Gotham Racing. It shares all the great multi-platformers such as GTA, Fallout, Deadspace, Bioshock.
As for needing to pay for an Xbox Live subscription, it's well worth the cost if you're going to be gaming online frequently, because the PSN fails hard in comparison.
Knight; yes the PS3 has a relatively competent friends system now. You can earn Trophies, and you can view those trophies in your friend's virtual space when Home finally goes publicly live.
