id Software want to make a Quake 1-style reboot

If you just squealed with joy, you're not alone. John Carmack of id Software was recently speaking to Eurogamer, where he said that "strong factions" at the studio have motivation to take the Quake series back to its roots. "We think that would be a more interesting direction than doing more Strogg stuff after Quake 4" he continued to explain.

Unfortunately, Carmack also states that "nothing is scheduled here, people are not building this." Looking forward however, after Rage and Doom 4 of course, anything is possible. CEO Todd Hollenshead chimed-in with "people shouldn't worry that we're ever going to orphan or abandon Quake. We are huge fans of the game internally."
