Pity that the publisher has gone mad with power and has to be put down.

      Will not buy.

Yeah let's boycott the only decent game to be released in years because the publishers are dicks...

Enjoy staring at your navel while I enjoy myself.

If you use a VPN you can get the LE from Origin for $60, otherwise you can buy a boxed copy from Games101 for $69.95.

Conveniently I couldn't give two shits about the battlefield series, so boycotting it won't really do me any harm. But you guys go lap that shit up, if you didn't buy it, they'd just blame lack of sales on pirates and shift more focus to consoles anyway.

Anyway, Rec is excited about this game, definitely a bad sign.

Sort of like how RAGE, Portal 2, Civilization V, Modern Warfare 2 etc. are all Steam even if you buy it retail?

Unfortunately this is one instance where I'm buying a game even if it doesn't use Steam.

Yeah, Steam, as in Valve, the guys with a long history of developing their community and generally being respected and trustworthy.

Not origin, as in EA, the guys with a long history of selling their grandmothers for profit, kicking babies and generally being dicks at every opportunity.

I don't disagree with you. But ultimately us saying we will only buy a game from X digital retailer is about as dickish as EA's antics in selling it everywhere except through X digital retailer. I certainly don't say I will only buy console games from JB HI-FI. I go to the cheapest place that it's in stock at.

I'm putting the politics aside for this one. As I said, this is one instance where I'm buying a game even if it doesn't use Steam - despite the fact I'll always prefer to buy through Steam due to the awesome software and convenience.

However, it looks like the VPN trick that works on Steam doesn't work at Origin. Tried both UK and US options...

Fuck paying 25% more through Origin AU. Boxed copy it is. :/

Consumer's are allowed to exercise choice based on actions of people trying to sell us shit, you can't be a dick as a consumer, you're the one paying the money. Unfortunately the choice you've been offered in this case, is to install their sales platform onto your pc, or don't play their game.

Couldn't give a shit where you buy it from, my concern is with the spamware they're going to jam down your throat. Same goes for gfwl, I won't buy anything that forces me to use that shit.

yes i know origin is required to play, but Origin as a service will not get any money from me. Which is my point.

It shits me I can't get this from Steam, but so long as EA isn't making the excessive profit from it that Whoreigin will give them, I don't care. Origin doesn't need to be running all the time, so i won't get spam from it (beyond what EA already sends to my inbox).

Batman uses GFWL. And I'm sure as shit buying Arkham City.

And as mentioned, many AAA games require Steam, which is a sales platform as well. And it jams advertisements down your throat every time you launch it.

      That argument is flawed.

Your argument that EA are dicks is perfectly valid. But I'm still buying this game.

which is fine with me, as I'll be whoring up engie as usual* so more airborne tools == more rocket kills

*usual being, that's my default class in the battlefield series, i only used recon so much in BFBC2 because there were no planes to shoot down... ;P

Steam is a default platform, it's like releasing games on ps3 or xbox. Origin/GFWL aren't alternatives, it's a forced platform used as little as possible. They offer no value, people only use them because they have no choice.

My argument isn't flawed, on paper origin is exactly the same thing as steam, publisher makes sales platform to push their product and others = profit.

The difference is ultimately that valve aren't cunts, ea are. And they're giving you exactly two options, don't play, or take it roughly. Sight unseen, i'm going to choose don't play. You guys feel free to do whatever you like, but you're justifying their belief that they can do whatever they like, and you'll still line up to buy their shit.

Valve has built has customer trust EA have taken customer trust and taking a big steaming shit on it.
You only have past performance to judge future behaviour.

Steam isn't a default platform, and it's nothing like 360/PS3. But because it's Australia's only real choice on PC it kind of seems that way to us. Direct2Drive is pretty huge in the USA.

And when Steam started it was only for Valve games, too. Just like Origin is with EA games now.

I'll say it for the third time; a bunch of games force the use of Steam. But just because it uses Steamworks doesn't mean you need to buy it from Steam, just like you don't have to buy Origin games from Origin; there are plenty of places to buy it digitally or in store. Just not Steam.

Steam publishers also region gouge us, just like Origin is. But good deals for Steam forced games can still be found; I paid $27 for Deus Ex: Human Revolution from Green Man Gaming, for Steam. Just like good deals can be found for BF3 elsewhere instead of buying Origin direct.

Your only valid point continues to be that EA are asshats generally. So you should boycott all of their games, not just Origin ones, if that's the root of your beef.

this is one argument I don't understand. When Valve did it, there was no viable alternative (that being the REASON they created Steam). Origin is just doing it for greed - the arsehat thing really does trump all the other shit like 'oh noes valve locks you down into their superawesomeness' <-- being upset by this is like heaven having all the pretty nekkid girls, but hell is trying to set up it's OWN version of heaven and they have that ONE CHICK that you liked in that one movie. But really you know it's still hell...
