• Counter-Strike: Global Offensive announced

Seven long years since the release of Counter-Strike: Source we're finally seeing another CS. But it's still not Counter-Strike 2, it's Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. Utilising the Portal 2 iteration of the Source engine, the game is scheduled for an early 2012 release on Playstation Network, Xbox Live Arcade and Steam.

"CS: GO features new maps, characters, and weapons and delivers updated versions of the classic CS content (de_dust, etc.). In addition, CS: GO will introduce new gameplay modes, matchmaking, leader boards, and more.

"Counter-Strike took the gaming industry by surprise when the unlikely MOD became the most played online PC action game in the world almost immediately after its release in August 1999," said Doug Lombardi at Valve. "For the past 12 years, it has continued to be one of the most-played games in the world, headline competitive gaming tournaments and selling over 25 million units worldwide across the franchise. CS: GO promises to expand on CS' award-winning gameplay and deliver it to gamers on the PC as well as the next gen consoles and the Mac.

"CS: GO is being developed by Valve in cooperation with Seattle-based Hidden Path Entertainment. The title is targeted for release in early 2012 and will be playable at this year's PAX Prime and Eurogamer Expo 2011."

Ok, I'm getting a lil more excited after reading pro-player testing feedback and notes.

"Decoy grenades can be thrown to emit gun sounds.

"CS: GO is experimenting with automatically equipping a random member of the Counter Terrorist team with a defuse kit at the beginning of each round in order to make the kit a special item like the Terrorist's bomb. They're also testing giving everyone armor and full Kevlar each round.

"Because everyone got full Kevlar each round, Valve tweaked the price of some guns and money rewards to balance things out."

This could go either way for a few obvious reasons.

      1. Heads south due to poor development.
      2. Turns out to be a fucking amazing installment, due to endless hours perfecting it for it's competitive potential (ala SC2).
      3. Everyone hates it, 'caus it's not any of the previous incarnations of CS, which are 'so much better, man'.

      3. would probably lead to those of us that are sick of the current one lapping it up again

      Some more snips...

"The graphics and animation in the new game have been vastly improved and look beautiful."

"It didn't feel like 1.6 and despite being built on the Source engine, it didn't feel like CSS."

"By design, Valve wanted to create a game with a different feel, and overall it was really smooth. The pro players seemed surprisingly happy with the player movement and feel of the game."

"New weapons were added, including a new heavy machine gun rifle, new pistols, and a new shotgun."

"They added molotov cocktails, an expensive $850 item, which can be used to slow down opponents and re-route opponents through AOE damage."

only problem that i can see, is that it will probably be just the same old gameplay. New fancy graphics sure, new guns sure, new maps, new everything but it'll still just be CS. the same dicks will do the same shit and ruin it for the rest of us most likely

Well being CS it's kind of the idea to keep the same gameplay just updated, otherwise it may as well be titled something else.

But yes re:the dicks. Hopefully MW keeps going to hold most of them over there.

nothing, i guess this explains the lack of updates for css for the past months. A small team at HPEis handling the css.
btw the CSS beta is just HPE platform to beta test the new updates before rolling them out on the main game.
