• Our first look at Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

Courtesy of IGN is our first look at Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. Embedded you will find three gameplay videos with about five minutes of footage to gawk at, paired with some informative commentary about the development and features. Map changes, weapon additions and a visual face-lift are all showcased.

Unfortunately the face-lift is a mixed bag of mess. While the aesthetic presentation of maps look far better than any previous Counter-Strike, the animations aren't much of an improvement, looking awkward and unnatural.

It's again stressed that this is not Counter-Strike 2, and that's an important note which should greatly dampen any disappointment you may have. If it's $20 or less it looks like a good buy for a bit of familiar fun.

i liked the gun slung on the back of the terrorist at one point - looked like it was floating behind him. assuming this is still early stages though. much of that could still be tweaked given there's still 5 or so months til release.

I think Valve are just too scared to change it too much because of how bad CZ turned out. But seriously the same radio calls? Looks like all the same guns, same mechaics. New graphics? who cares about new graphics?

I do like the change to Dust but i mean seriously, they cant come up with new maps? they dont want to you know, MAKE some new maps? heaven forbid we play something different. Probably the main reason why this has fallen in competitive play when compared to other games.

Only thing that looks good is that auto-war match making system.

probably same old maps because the only people playing CS:S anymore are still loving them. but yeah, at least add more game modes - even some of those consecutive ones like TF2 has now. Something like

      - Ts have to down a chopper with one stinger, requiring a short lock-on period, that has to be fired from a certain point.
      * chopper downed - next round is a standard hostage rescue to retrieve chopper crew
      * chopper lives - next round Ts need to cross the map under fire from the chopper + CTs

      etc

Looks rubbish. CSS with a BAD skinpack and a match-making system (meh...). Personally, I still prefer the feel of 1.6 to anything that has come since.

I'm mixed about it all too. I like the changes to Dust and the maps look better but I agree with rec about the movements not looking right.

Even at 720P the clips were not a great resolution at all.

Time will tell.... someone go find out how to get into the beta in October.

Oh and whats with 5V5 maps for consoles !!! hahahahaha you fuckin losers.

edit - Just saw the trailer on Steam and it promised more maps and more game modes.....

      Wow, that looks fucking woeful.
Those recoil animations look worse than in the original mod beta.

the steam trailer does make it seem a bit more promising. I still think it'll play out exactly like CS and will get boring for us pretty fast.

I think that the gun's are too far out from the screen is why it looks so weird.

I can't wait to play the new maps and the new versions of the old favourites.

Lets not kid ourselves here ppl, we all know there is a big weekend ahead of us all in 2012. Get your time in lieu built up now!

Lol some of you are to hard on em. When CSS came out there were bugs galore, they get fixed, animations are just bugs. I'd like to see the hit boxs etc done right the first time, if thats good then the rest will fall into place. It will be good have the maps reworked, the more they put in them the better. I want to see more close combat maps, they are fast and fun. Less sniper maps for pub players , also will work better for the consoles.

Animations aren't "bugs" - they're not moving like that because of an error in code. Models are animating like that because they're designed that way. In this case, designed poorly.

Yeah but that's easy fixed in a year before release. I think it's got potential that's all I'm saying.

Well fingers crossed they do rework them, because even the CSS animations are better.
