• Battlefield 3 beta commences September 29

Finally, a date has been disclosed. EA announced via Twitter that the highly anticipated Battlefield 3 beta will launch on September 29 - just over a week from now - prior to BF3's release on October 27. You'll get to play a single map, Paris' Operation Metro, in Battlefield's "Rush" game mode.

Anyone who pre-orders the digital PC version of the game at Origin will be granted access to the beta, as will anyone who pre-ordered a Limited Edition of Medal of Honor. Furthermore, if you purchased Medal of Honor on Steam prior to July 26 you too will have access. In that instance, to get your beta key, click the "CD Key" link from within the Medal of Honor page inside your Steam Library. You will still need Origin to download and play the beta though, so grab it from www.origin.com/download.

For those that aren't aware what "Rush" is, here's the description from DICE:

"First introduced in Battlefield: Bad Company, Rush has now made its way to the heart of the Battlefield series in Battlefield 3. An objective based mode, the attackers have to arm and detonate pairs of M-COM stations in each area of the map to unlock the next area and the next pair of M-COM stations. While defenders have an unlimited amount of spawn tickets, attackers only get new tickets every time they destroy a pair of M-COMs. If all M-COM stations on the entire map are destroyed, the attackers are declared the winning team. If the defenders manage to deplete the attacker's tickets to zero (by killing them), the defenders are declared the winners.

"As an all-out warfare mode, Rush features a large variety of vehicle setups tuned specifically to that map's landscape and features. Players can find all types of vehicles on Rush maps, including transport vehicles, armored vehicles, helicopters, and of course, jets. Rush offers a compelling objective based all-out warfare game mode for Battlefield veterans."

There are a few changes to the mode, however:
    • You cannot use explosives or shoot at the M-COM to take it out. Only arm and disarm.
    • If the attacking team arms the M-COM, but runs out of tickets, the match will continue until the M-COM detonates or defenders disarm it
    • If the defenders start disarming an M-COM just before it’s about to blow, the explosion is prevented until the disarm is accomplished. If the defender gets killed during the disarm process, the M-COM will instantly blow
And here are the system requirements:

mind you, good stopping tanks from killing them (directly) - that one in the pit on that snow map was just too easy due to that.

Should the key be showing already? Or closer to the actual beta release?Caus I've had MoH for ages and I don't have a key

not sure it will even give you a key will it? MOH is probably attached to your EA/Origin account so it will likely just unlock when it's ready - bet it doesn't preload though...

i also bet the origin preorders (that get the beta 48 hours earlier) wont finish loading til the beta is opened to the MOH players.

edit: oh just noticed this on the origin store page for BF3: * CONSUMERS WHO BOUGHT MEDAL OF HONOR LIMITED EDITION OR TIER 1 EDITION ALREADY HAVE THIS REWARD. - in ref to the 48 early access to the beta. I thought MOH just gave you beta access, not early beta access. cool.

As per the article, if you bought MoH on Steam prior to July 26 you will have a beta key via the "CD Key" link in your library.

When the beta key will appear is unknown. Sometime between now and the 29th.

I've tried everything to do the "Steam credit card trick" on Origin, too. Various cards, various VPNs in various locations, various address formats - nada.

Better value buying it boxed for $70-ish from the major discounters (E.g. BIG W), or using a key site as per Ratty's link (but you won't get beta access?).

On the topic of pre-orders, Battlefield 3 is well ahead of EA predictions, having secure over 1.5 million already.

yeah cant argue with $26 bucks not frussed bout beta access really, I've bought Space marine and RO2 from them this week alone so they legit and fast delivery of keys, bout 30-60 mins.

You do realise you still get beta access right? You just don't get the 48 headstart, so you can play on the 29th September where as preorders can play on the 27th.

(Assuming those are US dates but you get my point)
