Unfortunately, his remarks have met expectations. He kicks things off by stating his assumption that "the Gamers4Croydon campaign will involve criminal activities and dirty tricks, which is what I’ve come to expect from gamers,” and adds "Their Web site is full of memorabilia but not much else. This electorate has some 24,000 people to talk to and convince. Personally, I see no evidence of local support for their party."
Doe responded without surprise; “It’s a completely ridiculous statement. This is a serious issue and we’re running a serious campaign. We don’t need to use dirty tricks.” While I personally would like to remain unbias for the purpose of games-politics reporting, it's hard when you're insulted by a figurehead of this stature, and even harder when you're embarrassed by the conduct of your own politicians. R18+ rating or not, it's clear that Atkinson in misplaced in his role.
On a final note, it's important to remember that Gamers4Croydon is not just about our desire for an R18+ games rating. Policies extend to retrofitting rainwater tanks, the introduction of an Independent Commission Against Corruption and creating the world's largest solar electricity farm.
