Throughout the time slot South Australian Attorney General, Michael Atkinson, and iGEA (Interactive Games & Entertainment Association) CEO, Ron Curry, had been pitching perspectives without a great deal of progress. Gamers4Croydon's Chris Prior also joined via telephone to speak with Atkinson in this public arena...
There was however some hope for just a brief period, when Atkinson openly and specifically suggested there could be compromise in regards to introducing an R18+ classification, but with strict guidelines for what is still disallowed entry into the country. Of course, this is exactly how it was always going to work. For whatever reason, Atkinson followed by stating this compromise would only be addressed after the upcoming election. Atkinson went as far to call Curry and like-minded individuals "responsible", but believes that most gamers say classifications to be abolished entirely. This is certainly not the goal of Gamers4Croydon, nor the wish of any gamer I associate with.
However, just moments later, Atkinson back-flipped on this idea of R18+ reconciliation - citing that the ratings board is not to be trusted and the risk for the children and families of Australia is too great. Prior promptly responded, explaining that an R18+ classification is the best way to instigate this family security, so that we have a greater chance of seeing R18+ content make its way into Australia under the guise of MA15+, making purchase decisions based on classifications valid.
