The game is set in the Los Angeles of 1947. You play as Cole Phelps, a cop who intends to clean up the crime filled streets - including his own police force that's riddled with corruption. To top things off, Phelps is still dealing with "very bad things" he did during World Ward II. Your path is a progressive one, moving through the ranks - from desk to homicide detective.
Key gameplay progress is made in a case-solving manner through investigation, interviews and interrogations. But don't expect glowing items of interest, you'll actually have to do your own detective work at scenes to find the clues that'll lead to a result. All important bits of evidence and information are jotted down on your notepad, accessible at all times.
Team Bondi's "revolutionary" facial animation technology will be used during interviews and interrogations, which captures actors' face movements with numerous cameras to deliver ground-breaking realism in the game world. We're told we can expect "picture-perfect rendering" of the actor's scene as it was filmed. I imagine you'll be expected to make judgement calls that will lead you to believe or not believe them, aided by the plethora of expressions that can now be captured, such as a discreet smirk or jaw clench.
