BC2 released in US, pre-loads in AU/UK, patched

To elaborate; Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is now being played by Americans right across the United States - that's if they've downloaded the additional 300mb patch which delivers "assorted fixes, some perf improvements, fov controllable via Settings.ini (fov=55 default I think)". An official patch change-list is expected later today...

As for us Australians, Milenko points out in the BC2 release schedule article that pre-loading is now available! If you're still seeing "Bad Company 2 Pre-load" and/or "Bad Company 2 Beta", restart steam to be graced with "Bad Company 2" in your games library, with the option to start pre-loading. It's coming down at a miserable 150kb/sec at my location - let us know if you're having better luck.

The world is going BC2 crazy right now. From the official Battlefield blog:

The BC2 site is experience a high amount of traffic and is having intermitent accessibility!
Please be patient while we work on resolving this as quickly as we can.

Oh, and a Steam update has just been released with some critical fixes. Just in time for our BC2 pre-load.
Fixed not always decrypting a game on launch
Really fixed offline mode not always working
Fixed cases where a game would stop downloading for no reason

Mine came down at a steady 1.4mb. Just waiting on the unlock now. I did have to apply the latest steam update and turn off steam watch to get it to start downloading.

No I haven't done that, however it all arrived as un-metered content so no loss.

Still slow for me, about to restart Steam again.

I usually find if I'm downloading at 1mb+ it's from Australian servers and un-metered. If it's about the 300k mark, like it is now, it's coming from abroad and counts towards my cap.

Why the fek can't we make a location preference anymore.

does it really matter if its 140k or 1.4mb/s... wont be able to play it when it finishes either way.

fwiw mine fluctuated between about 30k/sec and 2.6MB/sec. randomness ftw.

All pre-loaded. Official BC2 countdown says 2 hours 30 minutes, while Steam says 5 hours.

More issues. This from the BC2 blog:

We are aware of the connection issue some PC users are experiencing. We are working on a solution.

I guess the extra day of waiting isn't such a bad thing.
