The plot thickens. Remember the article we ran regarding the Channel Ten News report on video games being as damaging as smoking cigarettes? Well, it turns out that Michael Atkinson - the South Australian Attorney General single-handedly standing in the way of reformed games classification in this country - funded it with tens of thousands of dollars...
An "expert" featured in the Ten News report from the Australian Council on Children claimed that the link between violent games and youth violence was stronger than tobacco and cancer. Since, News.com.au have been told by a spokesperson of Atkinon's department the he provided an annual grant to the council under its trading name Young Media Australia.
It is said that Atkinson's money was in support for a project called "Know Before You Go"; a film classification education practice aimed at parents and not this most recent 'study'. Do we believe that? Of course, the most amusing part of this entire scenario is that it's Atkinson who had previously stated that it's our Gamers4Croydon political party that was going to get involved in mischievous underhanded tactics to swing the R18+ debate result - however right now, it seems quite the opposite.
