• Long term Bad Company 2 commitment from DICE

Attachment 6661In an article at IGN, we've received the promise that DICE is "definitely" committed to supporting Bad Company 2, for a long time. The key, of course, being a long time. This is a refreshing statement, given the growing trend of disregarding a predecessor to make way for its sometimes less popular sequel. DICE had much more to say, all reassuring - especially for PC gamers. Karl Magnus Troedsson, Executive Producer at DICE had this to say...

The PC crowd is a crowd that we feel very special about, because this is where Battlefield was born. We're going to take a look at the whole product both on PC and the console, but perhaps even more on PC because we can do more stuff there and see what tools we can release. I agree with you that any kind of movie-making tool is very powerful, but it's also quite a lot of intricate work to get that to function with the engine. I won't promise anything, but it's on the plate for looking into.

If that snippet isn't pleasing enough, here are some additional wise words on the topic of downloadable content:

One of the very clear lessons that we learned from that is that the more booster packs people have to pay for, all you do is actually segment the community. If you don't have this map, you can't play with me. If I don't have that map, I can't play with you. Team play is very important for us... this is something that we felt that it is probably better to give away a lot of the maps for free, and then perhaps we can have some more paid DLC in the future that is not focusing on that.

Bad Company 2 most certainly has its own substantial share of issues currently, but you can't help but love the guys over at DICE. Long live.

i would like to see them support the game through many patches, with new maps ever few months, new weapons and pins to get etc.
not in 3 months time bring out a expansion pack with all these items in it.

I concur! They have a habit of releasing expansions instead of fixing the foundation before it.

I think releasing DLC's will be fine to "refresh" the game. ie. support it for a good year, but as numbers start to decline online release a cheap DLC to get a few people back on board.

Valve do a great job releasing updates for TF2 classes and when ever they do i'll play it again for a good week. Obviously DICE don't have the income like valve do, so I guess i'm ok with them releasing DLC, so long as its at a reasonable price, not the price i bought the original game at. Also I think maps should be released for free...

Yeah, i reckon DLC packs for the game should consist of new gear and kits, XP paths etc, but all maps should always be free so the player base isn't divided.

Well the game should be easier to update now compared to when bf2 was released. The use of the autopatcher and steam updater will hopefully enable them to release frequent tweaks etc
