Now this is a truly nifty idea. What if instead of swapping images between eyes to create 3D, you just gave one set of images to player 1, and the other set to player 2? You could both be watching the same screen, but seeing something entirely different. Well, Sony have submitted a patent to do just that.The patent illustration also suggests that each player who also have their own audio-feed. You would still need a "3D" TV, but it's important to remember that essentially 3D TV's are just sets with 120Hz refresh rates - all televisions will eventually do this anyway.
