• Pre-purchase Call of Duty: Black Ops on Steam

    The news has finally arrived: Call of Duty: Black Ops will indeed be available on Steam, with full Steamworks integration - as per Modern Warfare 2. This means auto-updating, achievements and cloud support. Unfortunately for us Australians, who's dollar is now as strong as the US, we're being charged an additional $30 for the game - $90 as opposed to $60.

    In light of this, my recommendation would be to pick up a retail copy instead, as it's just $79 from Game.com.au. There are no word of any Australian midnight launches at this stage, but it's unlikely that EB Games will sit idle, so keep your ears pealed if you want to be one of the very first people to own and play Black Ops.

    Lastly, don't forget that Gamers-Underground.com will have servers up on launch today for you to play on. See you on there!

      Agreed. I'm no longer buying anything on Steam that doesn't at least approach price parity with other regions. From now on everything will be obtained from wherever I can get it cheapest, even if that means waiting several days for a new release I've been dying for to come from Hong Kong. I've already started this week with Fallout New Vegas.

      I know it's the respective publishers and not Valve themselves who set the Steam price, so to them I say "fuck you".

      I urge other people to do the same. Feels good, man.

      Method that worked to purchase Black Ops cheaper for zut:
      1. log out of steam
      2. Home ::: AnonymityNetwork.com ::: provide Virtual Private Network - go here and create a free trial account
      3. login to UK vpn
      4. login to steam and buy
      5. enter CC only (apparently pay pal doesnt work)
      6. enter country as UK, rest can be the same I think
      7. log out of steam and the vpn.
      8. log back into steam and download the game

      It's the same method written about in the L4D2/MW2 threads, but apparently it's still working for some.

      Apparently if you've bought a retail copy of black ops in Australia, it's already live and unlocked.

      it's inherently steam integrated, no matter what the source is.

      Harb is right, it's a Steamworks game. No matter what avenue you buy it through, it'll be installed to your Steam directory and put in your Steam games list. If you don't have Steam, it will install that, and make you create an account.
