• Call of Duty: Black Ops is now out

    Black Ops is now available on Steam! We've been told that it was unlocked at midnight for launch-party purchasers of the retail copy, as well. Strangely, Australia has actually been given first access to the game, rather than a delay - with Steam users in the UK needing to wait another 9 hours, and those in the USA another 17. The first few reviews are in, too. Let's see what they've had to say...

    Canada's Wild Gunmen magazine give it a strong 9.5/10, claiming that "Its campaign might not be the best, but it's solid enough that playing through it is fun and what the campaign lacks, the multiplayer and zombie modes more than make up for... This is easily the game of the year."

    The well known Game Informer magazine has also chimed in, with a 9/10, saying "Treyarch has crafted the finest Call of Duty multiplayer game to date."

    Our servers are already up, running on Internode hardware in Sydney. So look out for "Gamers Underground One" and "Gamers Underground Two" on your travels. We'll launch more as they become required, depending on the traffic. Hope to be shooting some face with all of you very soon!

      Single player seems to work ok for me, but it crashed on the first change of map.

      Multiplayer doesn't work, massive lag spikes. Big disappointment.

      crap - that after browsing for a server? was hoping it was just a bad server choice from the automated PLAY option :/

      Aegis, I'm going to assume that he's an American. They're still waiting for unlock.

      As for the multiplayer; it's b0rked. Pings of players on the servers are spiking from 80 to 999, and this seems like a world-wide problem.

      The server browser is also unable to filter by region, and while it's refreshing you can't join a server - it appears to smash your CPU.

      yeah and it has to individually ping all ~7000 servers during the refresh.

      Also doesn't let you filter by text string or anything useful like that, I mean, it's only 7 thousand servers, why would you need to reduce that number?

      The server lag is excruciating on the MP side of things, take two paces wait 5 secs to catch up, die, repeat.

      You only get kills because you've surprised them and managed to get in just before the lag kicks in.

      This has been the case on pretty much all UK servers, and from what I've read US / Aus and JPN servers.

      It's either that the one GSP Tryearch chose can't cope with the demand on their network, or the game was never designed to be played as MP.

      Im from South African same stuff is happening going for 80 ping to 999 ping. Though it seems that only some people are being affected . And most are just being assholes and not saying why it doesn;t affect them because they want leet scores

      Good Game gave it a great wrap, agreeing with many reviews that it's the best single player COD yet, and probably the best multiplayer too (once fixed): Good Game - Video

      there in lies the problem WTF is with giving a broken game decent review scores.
      Some cock was sucked or brown paper bags left.

      Best singleplayer and broken multipleplayer is only 5/10 as only half the game works.

      In the last year every time a decent game has been released I've been in hospital, I've only managed about 5 hours Bad company and Black Ops is here, might have to skip BC2 or get myself a decent notebook for when I'm away.
