• Gran Turismo 5 midnight launches and cheapest prices

Gran Turismo 5 is out tomorrow. Yes, seriously. Pinch yourself. Although, you should be warned that once you have the game, there's a 133mb patch to download, and then an hour long install thereafter. Thankfully functionality has been built in so you can play while it installs, but that patch you're just going to have to sit there and wait for. Inconveniences aside, let's move onto the topic of this article and have a look at where you should be buying this console generation's most anticipated racer.

GT5 is attainable for as cheap as $60-odd dollars, but that's if you're willing to wait a week or two for an international stockist to ship it out. Locally, you'll still find some good prices, the two cheapest we've found being BIG W at $77.97 and JB HI-FI at $79.

While EB Games nor Game are doing midnight launches, JB HI-FI is! If you live near Chadstone, Bourke St or Knox in Victoria, you're in luck - they're open from 10pm to 1am this evening for the game's release. If you're close to Hobart, Adelaide City or Miranda in NSW, you can also race in sometime after 10pm to grab your copy.

See you on the track tomorrow.

Harvey Norman is advertising it for $77. Unsure if it's the PC version though - may just be console.

Yeah, the Logitech Driving Force GT is the best bang for buck - excellent wheel.

Or if you're cashed up, Logitech G27.

      Well written review here

Hopefully the multiplayer issues are quickly fixed. They managed to make it useable in Prologue after patches if a bit simple.

Was looking at a G27 today...

Whats the diff between them, and is the diff worth $350 or so?

When I was there DSE had none on the shelf. I asked them about it and they got one from out the back for me. They just can't fit them on the shelf so they only have the display model.

Depends - not really. It is if you're going to put a couple hundred hours use into it. If you're a casual racer, no.

The G27 is more comfortable to hold for long periods, the pedals are far, far superior (plus clutch pedal), and you get a shifter. Oh, and the helical gears are much quieter and provide smoother force feedback.

Current prices are $138 for the GT Pro (Dick Smiths) or $394 (staticice) for the G27. If you want to know how the GT feels bring your PS3 over to my place for an afternoon

Rec is very much into his driving games and will tell you himself that his GT wheels did the job for years, he only went the G27 due to the number of driving games that got released in the last few months.

I got mine last year in the pre Christmas sales for under $100 at DSE its a great wheel for the price.

edit - rec beat me to it.

      Hehehe.

Under $100 sounds like it was a good score Res!

A resident "expert" (sitting diagonally opposite me Res.... ) has said playing with a wheel is heaps harder, because you have to spin the wheel instead of just flicking the controller stick.

Would you say "harder", or just "different and more realistic"?

It's easier, it just requires more effort. He's just lazy :p

Sure it's "harder", physically. As far as actually driving in the game, getting in consistent and fast lap times, it's far, far easier. And if that's not the case for him, well, he's just shit.
