• Logitech announce MX 518 successor; the G400

Logitech's MX 500, 510 and 518 were heralded by gamers - and continue to be - as some of the best gaming mice on the market. They remain a prime choice for low-sens twitch gamers due to the absence of unwanted hardware acceleration, meaning a <0.5% cursor to hand movement variance. Logitech have now promised to "take everything that was right with the MX518 and make it even better" with their new G400.

The MX 518's 1800 DPI sensor has been upgraded to a higher-resolution 3600 DPI, and that DPI is adjustable on the fly without software; 400, 800, 1800, and 3600. The shape, button layout, durability and indeed tracking consistency has been left intact and unchanged. Most importantly, and impressively, the G400 reports at 1000Hz, up from the MX 518's 125 reports per second. Finally, the cable is thinner and lighter.

Personally, I'm thrilled. I can finally stop hoarding MX 510 mice in fear of this cherished optical series becoming extinct.

wish they would get rid of that round elevated logitech logo in the middle.
meh im happy with the g500 atm, its been my favourite of the mice so far and i've owned a few in the series.
but i have to say the mx518 at $29 is a little hard to pass up its an awesome mouse too.
i also want to give the wireless g700 a shot, $79 isn't bad for a wless gaming mouse.

      Is awesome.

      - The new Logitech Gaming Software lets me setup up just two DPI settings (400dpi for shooting and 3600dpi for tank/jet action),
      - and then define a default (yay for not clicking DPI-down after Windows boot).
      - Setting the report rate to 1000Hz went off without a hitch.
      - The new giant teflon feet make for a nicer ride.
      - The thinner, lighter, longer cable is a nice touch.

Nice....having hated setpoint since forever the new gaming software package which I installed last week for my G15 is a very nice interface. It's nearly worth the cash just for the 400 just for its integration with the gaming software.

Logitech has also integrated the same button programming software used by its G-Series keyboards and the G13 Advanced Gameboard. This grants the G400 access to Logitech Gaming Software's drag and drop interface, automatic game detection, macro, and scripting capabilities -- not to mention the ability to share macros with G-Series keyboards. Logitech Gaming Software v8.0 includes profiles for 210 games.

      Oh sweet, same price there.

Highly recommended. If you love (or loved) the MX500/510/518 then this is the one you want - it's the winner.
