• Steam terms prompt Crysis 2 removal, not EA

Yesterday we reported on a breaking story that EA Games had removed Crysis 2 from Steam, in an effort to muscle customers across to their own digital distribution platform; Origin. It turns out that's not exactly the case; apparently "Crytek has an agreement with another download service" which infringed upon a recently imposed set of Steam business terms, and resulted in the "expulsion" of Crysis 2 from Steam, EA told Giant Bomb.

    The full statement reads:

"It's unfortunate that Steam has removed Crysis 2 from their service. This was not an EA decision or the result of any action by EA.

"Steam has imposed a set of business terms for developers hoping to sell content on that service - many of which are not imposed by other online game services. Unfortunately, Crytek has an agreement with another download service which violates the new rules from Steam and resulted in its expulsion of Crysis 2 from Steam.

"Crysis 2 continues to be available on several other download services including GameStop, Amazon, Origin.com and more."

What these exact terms are don't seem to have been publicly disclosed. We have contacted both EA and Steam for comment.
