FLOOD THREAT ADVICE
Issued by the BUREAU OF METEOROLOGY, DARWIN
at 1105 CST Tuesday 10 JANUARY 2006
AREA INVOLVED
Top End, Victoria River and Roper-McArthur Districts.
RAINFALL SUMMARY
Very isolated storms in the past 24 hours.
WEATHER SUMMARY
A deep low near Tennant Creek is producing an inactive westerly flow over the
Top End. Tropical Cyclone CLARE has crossed the Pilbara coast and is now moving
inland and slowly weakening.
FORECAST for the rest of today and Wednesday
Isolated afternoon and overnight gusty storms.
OUTLOOK for Thursday and Friday
The deep low near Tennant Creek moves to the northern Victoria River District
and then becomes slow moving. With Tropical Cyclone CLARE weakening, the monsoon
trough will also re-organise northwards.
It is possible the low will trigger the onset of a monsoon over the Top End
later in the week with an active northwest flow developing. Showers and storms
increasing. If the monsoon does develop, then there will also be periods of
rain, with some heavy falls possible. This may lead to some significant stream
rises and localised flooding over the Top End, Victoria River and Roper-McArthur
Districts from Friday.
