How to buy Steam games from other regions without VPN

EDIT: THIS METHOD NO LONGER WORKS - Try the VPN method.

Stumbled across this while trying to discover Steam cart id's without reconnecting to a VPN account.

As mentioned in this thread, Modern Warfare 2 is only $62 AUD via the UK Steam store, instead of $98 AUD through the Australian Steam store.

Well, there's a much easier way of grabbing it at the cheaper price, without paying for UK VPN access or signing up to a trial.
- Follow this URL: http://store.steampowered.com/?cc=uk

- Buy game (putting your credit/debit card "country" as United Kingdom)

That's it.

Oh, you can also compare prices to other regions. Changing the "uk" in the URL to "it" will take you to the Italian region's store (Euro currency).

Please note: this method (as opposed to the VPN method) may mean a risk of getting flagged, as your IP when purchasing the game won't originate from the country you've selected.

Nice one reccy. Great find. I've done the deal but through the 'ie' store so I could use my Euro Irish CC. Downloading the demo now. See you tomorrow night

will this work to uncensor l4d2???

Post 4

Yes.

Can anyone confirm this is still working? OD & I just tried with 3 cards, including one that worked previously, to purchase a game using this method - all failed.

Post 6

how did it fail? complete denial? or just gave you the AU copy?

Post 7

Complete denial. They may have instigated IP checks (meaning you need to use a VPN), or changed the credit card auth to require a country match (meaning you need to use Entropy).

Post 8

i got in in time then :D

Post 9

Thank god, got in time too :)

URL method still works. Jimmy just purchased a game using it.

Must have been the connection we're on at work, blocking something... or something. *shrug

worked for me :D

Confirmed.... I just purchased MW2 (after much harassing and actually enjoying the SP so much anyway) using my Irish CC and got denied when trying to purchase using the UK ($20 cheaper) as the country, only choosing Ireland worked. I would say they have now made sure the card needs to be linked to the country of issue.

I did this using the URL link without a VPN so the aussie IP wasn't an issue.

OD bought it from UK with Australian card just last night (and Feary the same, 3 nights ago).

It's just a bit iffy, and doesn't work 100% of the time with all cards etc.

Post 14

I tried this the other day and it ended up totally screwing up and now I have to ring them or something... :(

Post 15

Ok let's bump this...
So as you all probably know Risen is banned in Australia, i live in Australia atm, and i got really excited about this game when it came out, but it's banned ;//. So does this method still works? could i get into trouble for that? :D

Post 16

It's banned because we have no R18+ classification. Hopefully in a few months this will change as the guy who opposed having a R18+ class for games has resigned.

Can anyone confirm wether or not this still works? I've tried multiple credit cards as well as with a VPN and without. Each time it declines the request saying that "Your credit card information has been declined by your credit card company". I've tried inputting multiple addresses, including authentic and non-authentic ones, and I've quadruple checked that everything input correctly and that I am following all the necessary steps. However, it still does not work. Thanks.

Post 18

Sorry to say that they have copped on. Your address is now checked against the country in which the card was issued.

Still doesn't help me given most games in Euros are roughly the same as A$

After getting my account market as suspecious, I had to go through this whole proccess this is what I discovered.

1) For games, that are banned within the country of origin (Australia) Steam does a verification on your IP Address and the Address that you've entered.
2) For games that have not been banned within the country of origin (Australia) Steam does only a verification on your place of residency (Country:AU/USA/UK), so you can change your country and everything will be okay.

To purchase games from the UK that have been refused classification in Australia you need to do two things.
1) Clear your cache in your firefox or cookies.
2) Sign-up a VPN connection to the UK
3) Sign into steam via the web portal with ?cc=UK
4) Select the game, purchase.
5) Select the Country and say (UK)
6) Enjoy

Did this last night with manhunt.

Though please note, these extra security settings are placed on specific games that have failed classification in the country. So steam takes a extra step to make sure you dont get your hands on it.

The last option is get a friend to gift you the item from the country, that would probably be easier and faster.

The video is still not viewable without uk vpn service. Want more instructions to avoid this usage.
