    Bioshock Problems OS specific?

    Hey all,

I bought bioshock on a steam special, but unfortunately it doesn't seem to want to run on win7-64.

Does anyone know how to fix the problem?
    or
Does anyone know if its a 64-bit specific problem or a win7 problem? Because otherwise I might install XP-64... if that doesn't work I'm assuming XP-32 will do the trick.

    Cheers,
    PA

Bioshock runs fine on my Windows 7 64 install. What happens exactly?

I launch it and it comes up with the Bioshock logo... then Windows stats that bioshock.exe has stopped working.

Apparently specifying the "-dx9" switch in the game's launch commands fixes it... but of course, you wouldn't be seeing DirectX 10 graphics. Here are a bunch of other potential fixes:

    Edit your default.ini.

Put a semi-colon in front of AudioDevice=FMODAudio.FMODAudioSubsystem, and add the following line right after it:

    AudioDevice3DDrv.D3DAudioDevice

After editing that part of the config file should look like this:

    ;AudioDevice=FMODAudio.FMODAudioSubsystem

    AudioDevice3DDrv.D3DAudioDevice
Try deleting this hidden folder which has the settings for BioShock, which may be corrupt:
    Windows Vista - C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\Roaming\Bioshock
Try uninstalling and reinstalling the game.

Note: Reinstall the game in clean boot state:

Try performing a clean boot. Follow the below steps:

    1. Log on to the computer by using an account that has administrator rights.

    2. Click Start, type msconfig.exe in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER to start the System Configuration Utility. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.

    3. On the General tab, click Selective Startup, and then click to clear the Load startup items check box. (The Use Original Boot.ini check box is unavailable.)

    4. On the Services tab, click to select the Hide all Microsoft services check box, and then click Disable all.

    5. Click OK, and then click Restart.

    6.Install the game and check.

Refer the link below for more details:

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

    Hope this information is useful.
