Paypal Scam - Unauthorised Transaction On My Account

OK so I haven't used paypal for a loooong time and when checking my email I noticed a confirmation for a payment to skype of 10 british pounds. Not having used my account nor having an account with skype I logged into my paypal (NOT via an email link, I NEVER use links in emails) to check and sure enough there is a 10 pound charge, a refund and an open case on my account and my account is frozen. Okies WTF, this is fantastic as I'm supposed to be paying for an ebay auction tomorrow

I checked my bank account and sure enough the AUD equivalent of 10 pounds is missing from my account.

How in the FUCK did they do this? I haven't used it in forever, don't have a virus, have reformatted several times since I last used it anyway....so how exactly did they manage to bill my paypal?

Also how in the shit do I pay for my ebay auction now because as soon as I tell the seller "Oh hey you got another transaction method because someone scammed my paypal and it's temporarily frozen" I'm going to undoubtedly end up with a scam investigation against ME.

FFS how hard can it be to not be shit.

i always clear my card info from my paypal account once i've made a transaction (hardly ever use the stupid thing because of all the security issues they've had over the years).

Well once your bank account is linked to paypal they can pretty much keep getting deposits from your bank account without the need for confirmation. But then again, every request for money from your bank account sends 2 emails to the nominated account notifying you about the request.

If you didnt get these emails i sugges you change your email password

Thats how I found out about it, the emails. None of of my passwords or details have changed at all and they were all random number/letter/case passwords so I seriously doubt they fluked it. I logged in and changed it anyway but looking around this has been going on since about the time they linked paypal to skype to allow you to recharge directly from the client and some of the people being hacked have never even used their paypal before and their account just goes negative.

Yeah I did as soon as I found this out but I'm fairly sure they aren't getting in via password. Just to be safe I got this password by copy/pasting random text from a google search.

I updated it from my phone to rule out keyloggers and reformatted again.
