Should I move from node to Telstra?

So I'm on Internode Easy Broadband atm. $50 p/m for 50G. I use it all every month. I've never downloaded the HD version of anything before always just the normal divx/xvid version of shows. So far thats been fine but that all changed when I walked into T-Life last week to get a new HTC Desire on their $49 cap.

Turns out they are doing some very enticing bundles this month. Go to their website for details.

Currently I pay $230 p/m for Home phone - Platinum Foxtel IQ and my mobile. Add $50 for node and I pay $280 per month for communications with 50G data.

What I'm considering is paying $297 p/m for Home Phone, Foxtel, Mobile and 200G Bigpond.
New benefits - Home phone is the Ultimate plan so unlimited local/STD/Mobile calls. $10 credit to phone Ireland. 150G more data to download HD content AND access to their excellent T-Box.

I'll keep my node email (for like $30 a year or something) and can always move back when NBN rolls out. I went with Node in the first place for their price, service and free steam downloads. Telstra have come a long way since Sol moved on and now their quotas are reasonable (in the top end packages more so) and Steam downloads are quota free. The introduction of the T-box is what is pushing me over the top to be honest as this means I don't have to get the TiVo I was looking at buying.

    So what do you think?

    ...and no Usenet.

Why do you want to keep your Internode email? Just get Gmail. I've never understood people using their ISP email as their primary email. This is a perfect example why.

    All good points.

I had completely forgotten about Usenet - there is no way I'm giving that up.

hadn't heard about the filter being applied voluntarily and with no opt-out... Thats reason enough right there.

However, I came across this shortly after I posted > new adsl plans - ADSL - BigPond - Whirlpool Forums
If Wholesale prices are coming down at the end of the month it wont be long for better prices and quotas from node soon.

    I'll wait it out.

    Thanks for the input guys.

Jeez, $230 a month on the home phone is quite a chunk, have you considered switching to voip?

And the filter wouldnt affect you greatly as its only there to block child porn unless your into that stuff lol

If your a fan of massive download quotas you can have a look at TPG.

Also keep in mind the contact period of bigpond, it costs a fair bit and a hassel to get out of contracts with them.

T-Box seems pretty damn poop to me, and I'm not sure what the real interest in TiVO is either to be honest. But I've already got Foxtel + a media centre.

As for the landline phone - how about you just can it entirely and move to Naked DSL with Node. Call rates to Ireland using their VoIP service is $0.05 per minute. Local calls are a flat $0.18 untimed.

As for the 200GB Bigpond plan, you'd be surprised how much is consumed by uploads over the course of a month. Oh, and for an unlimited 500-day retention Usenet access with a decent provider, like Giganews, you're looking at like $30 a month.

Here's what I'd propose you do:

    • Home-NakedExtreme-120 (120 Gbytes) $109.95
    • NodePhone1 $0 (just pay for what you use)
    • HTC Desire contract with Telstra $49
    • Foxtel $100(?)

So that's a $258 base, with a superior ISP (super fast, super stable, support who aren't inept, free Usenet + great range of unmetered content: net-radio, ABC iView and all AU Steam servers).

Easy broardband with internode uploads are counted also.
