Exclamation Gamers Underground Site and the Brisbane Floods

Just got this from our server hosting people to pass on.

    Dear Customer,

Concerns over equipment safety in our Brisbane data centre due to the horrific amount of flooding in the area have prompted us to get in touch with all of our customers.

We wish to assure you that our data centre is not only on one of Brisbane CBD's geographically elevated areas, but also a number of storeys up into the building. Contrary to other data centres, this also includes our power infrastructure, which is located above our carpark, which incidentally remains dry.

Equipment is safe from the water at the moment, and we have no concerns of that changing.
A number of carriers have been affected by this tragedy, and have experienced loss of traffic. We are fortunately using carriers that have not been affected at all,or whom have proactively re-routed traffic out of scope of devices in the disaster area.

Status at the moment is nominal, and we will provide further information if this changes for any reason.

If you have any further concerns, please don't hesitate to lodge a ticket. Please be advised, however, that we are experiencing an abnormally high volume of ticket enquires, and some delays may be expected.

We wish you the highest safety if you happen to be in one of the troubled zones.

The GU people I know in Brisbane (including myself and rec) should also be fine. Can't say that for many others though.

9.10pm: Virtually every Brisbane CBD business or home will be powerless tomorrow morning in a power shutdown of a magnitude not seen since the 1974 floods. The city's massive power grid will be shut down from 7am, sending 100,000 homes and businesses into darkness.

ENERGEX on standby to switch off some of Brisbane CBD ? REVISED

ENERGEX has revised its Brisbane flood response and crews are on standby to switch electricity off to some low lying areas of Brisbane from 8:30 tomorrow morning (12 Jan 2011) for safety reasons.
This area is identified by Brisbane City Council flood mapping along the Brisbane River and its tributaries.
CBD areas will be shut down progressively as floodwaters rise. ENERGEX says the decision to shut power off is never taken lightly and is only undertaken as a safety precaution.
The outages could impact approximately 100,000 customers with restoration times dependent on the rate that floodwaters recede and the amount of possible damage caused to electrical equipment.
Areas mapped as under threat to flooding, based on the flood maps available, will be monitored and power progressively turned off as required.

It is no longer going to be "let's turn eveything off".

    Update:

    Dear Customer,

Following reports from reputable sources that power will be shutdown to protect the grid infrastructure in the lower lying regions of Brisbane CBD tomorrow, from the horrific amount of flooding in the area, we provide this update.

Reports from Energex indicate a high chance of power grids running close to the river being brought down to remove risks associated with power and water. As the data centre is not located in any zones specifically addressed, we do not believe there is a cause for alarm, however, we remain fixed on updates and ready for action.

In the event that our power grid is selected for shutdown, we will be taking steps before-hand to transfer power consumption of the facility to diesel power generator. Our current diesel availability will allow the facility to continue operating for around 24 hours.
