Thread: Help with C.D. key

when i unstalled cs, i installed it, and put on the update and doesnt ask me for the .C.D. number key. so can anyone help?

Thats fine totally normal.
When you uninstalled it, id guess it kept a registry entry (whatever u call it) that tells game info for Half-Life, within this your cdkey is kept.

So uninstalling the game only physically removed the games files. When you went to reinstall it still used the original data from within the registry.

Hence it didn't ask you for a cdkey

did u reboot after u reinstalled?

when ever ur installing/reinstalling programs always reboot after every install/un-install, it refreshes the system

To be of more help to you, as to whether you want to change your CD Key or not, you can do this.

Go to Start > Run

Type in:

regedit
(as in Registry Edit :p)

Ok now, go to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER > VALVE > Counter-Strike > Settings

Now scroll around here til you see "Key" - what is entered should be your current Half-Life/Counter-Strike key. You can double click on that number to change it, keep in mind though, leave out the dashes

That's for CS Retail mind you. Where I've put in Counter-Strike in bold, that could say Half-life if you run the mod version of CS.[/b]

you dont need to do anything dude. your cd key is still there and in tact.
