I love my Medigate MG35. Divx/xvid out of the box.

so long as we can all pay them out if they missed an earlier thread on the same topic!

Nope. Linux distros with kernal's that unlock the GPU (inc. extra 256mb memory) are being compiled, and may even be available right now (aint checked in past few days).

XBMC Linux port should be here very soon too though!

i'm not so sure. it takes 5 minutes of hacking to get the apple tv able to access network shares and play divx/xvid (mkv support is horrible tho, damnit.)

and the xbmc linux port isn't done yet, that i'm aware of, nor can i find any information in a quick search on any version of linux having full access to the ps3's gpu.

so basically you could rewrite your comment like this:

random non existant device with new software with full support for stuff > apple tv > xbox

Seems the linux version of XBMC is further down the track then I thought - still SVN only tho.

I'm sure PS3 owners would rather wait a lil while than give money to Apple for a device that'll be made redundant by their existing hardware shortly.

It means HD movie playback, all the glorious functionality of XBMC (or MythTV etc. until it's released), plus the ability to emulate Windows and run older Win-platform games (Doom 3 probably even possible), or 3D mame/console emulation.

speaking as a ps3 owner, i can happily state that you are wrong, and that i had no interest in waiting for a 'one day' that MIGHT NEVER COME.
