Just came across a neat little trick for adding a few seconds to your boot time by telling windows how many cores to use during start up. By default it uses one but if you have a dual core you can use 2 or quad 4 and so forth and if you have hyper-threading you can for example in a i-7 use 8!
Works with XP onwards.
Start> Run> msconfig> BOOT.INI tab> Advanced options> then tick /NUMPROC= then select your max number of cores available then ok, apply, ok then reboot.
I didn't really notice a difference on my desktop but I did on my netbook which has a Atom N450 @1.66Ghz, going from 1 core to 2 was a good 5 secs faster.
