    dead CPU what to do?

    My CPU fried last week.
It was a Q9450 so good last gen quad core.
    Motherboard is a gigabyte GA-X48-DQ6
    RAM 4 Corsair XMS2 2GB PC-8500

Other cards needed to fit into board are
    Gfx card(takes up two slots)
    PCI-x1 Raid card
PCI-x1 video encoder card(blackmagic intensity pro).

Looks like I can get the CPU repaired/replaced under warranty

    my choices are
a)replace with cheep cheap CPU and sell(or keep for spares) when the replacement comes.
    ~$60-$80
means I have a CPU that will underperform the rest of my system until warranty claim is finished.

b)Replace with similar CPU and sell the Q9450 when warranty claim is finished.
Q9505 (faster cloak less cache) are available for ~$270-$280.

    c)Replace CPU/MB/Ram
Would need to hold off on this for a bit and use my laptop in the mean time.
Most likely might do a) while saving to do c).

If c) what would be best option to get at least similar performance to the Q9450 with 8 gb of ram.
The GA-X48-DQ6 was chosen from the comparability list for the blackmagic card which I have been told isn't much of a issue with more modern cheep sets now. A low latency bus would be highly desirable because of the type of other work that gets done on this PC.

Anyone had experience with warranty claims with intel?

If your going to get a new motherboard then it might be better to go for Intels new CPU's, eg the k version of this Intel Core i5 2500 [BX80623I52500] - $229.00 : PC Case Gear or this one Intel Core i7 2600K [BX80623I72600K] - $399.00 : PC Case Gear

If you're going to buy new stuff, wait til Sandy Bridge stuff is out for a little bit, then everything will come down (i7 first gen). I'd just be going with option B for now, then replacing the whole system in a couple of months.

Edit: Or you could just go the latest... Intel? Core

Edit2: Hmmmm... the new i5s aren't much slower than the i7s from what I can see. Weird. Might have just been shit reviewers? Seems strange.

Edit3: So fucking cheap!! Intel Socket 1155 CPU Maybe you're just better off going SB.

Pity I can't use my existing motherboard though.
