Red face HTC Desire Froyo Rom (no Telstra Bloat)

    What you will need

    GoldCard creater application
    http://android.modaco.com/index.php?...=post&id=55866

Signed RUU (Restritive Release) It means all non factory signed phones
    Shipped ROMs

One MicroSD card, your pre-existing card will do, no need to format.

    Okay lets start...

    Step by step instructions
    # Turn on USB Debugging on your phone
    # Enable USB Mass Storage on the device (Write down the drive its mounted on)
    # Launch GoldCard Tool (Right Click and run as Admin if needed)
    # Click 'Get CID' (If MMC1 fails try MMC0) (If it fails you need the USB in debugging mode on your phone)
    # GO HERE (Free HTC goldcard generator | Phone System Analysis Software - PSAS) Put in your CID it generates for you
    # Enter the CID number from Goldcard Tool and create your goldcard image, which will be e-mailed to you.
    # Click 'Refresh' and select your microSD card in the drop down menu (The mounted drive letter J,K,L,M)
    # Click 'Load GoldCard.img' and open the .img file you got by email.
    # Click 'Patch MMC'
    # You now have a goldcard!
    # Keep the sdcard on your phone, you can use it for-ever now as a gold card
    # Double click on the RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00. 32U_5.11.05.27_release_159811_signed.exe
    # Go through the installation proccess
    # Congulations you have a factory default HTC Desire HTC sense installation without the telstra bloat ware.

Used the above today and yesterday to revert my HTC desire to Android 2.2 HTC World Wide Release because I was getting a bit pee'ed off with the bloatware on the phone from Telstra.

I also rooted, the phone and replaced the hosts file to block a large percentage of advertisement sites. Will follow up with instructions if people want to know how.

Though I found out the tools to remove S-ON in the bootloader but was more worried about bricking my phone.

Anyway happy upgrading to HTC Desire 2.2 factory default.

Dude there are heaps of better ROMs out there than vanilla Sense.

Try Leedroid if you really like Sense. If you like vanilla Android go CyanogenMod.

My fav by far is MIUI. Fastest, most practical, prettiest.

Thanks grandinferno, I'm kind of went crazy on the modding of my Android phone over the past two days. Installed the Android SDK and have all-ready developed two programs for it. Nothing special just app to display date and time on the status bar and another that just does some 3D graphics as a test program to see how hard/easy it would be.

So time to get some sleep, I've lost two days of my life to this little phone that is completely awesome!

Oh yeah, don't chmod shit just to test it out. Ended up sending my phone into a infinite welcome screen. Not to happy about that

xda-developers.com is your best source of info for flashing custom ROMS. Many of which are 1000s of times better than Vanilla ROMs.

Also flash Clockwork Recovery Mod so you can back up everything easily when you make changes to the ROM itself and restore easily and basically make your phone unbrickable.

Titanium Backup for an apps/settings/etc backup for transferring everything between ROMs. Don't need the full paid one, just the free one works fine.

Edit: Also the S-On stuff is not that difficult, I did my brothers Desire, my friends Desire HD and my HD2 (Which is a bit different cause its originally Windows Mobile). As long as you follow the instructions and dont rush off you will be fine. Once Clockwork Recovery mod is on you never have to worry about bricking again.

Also checkout Whirlpool for localised ROMs including MIUI and the Telstra Mod. There's a fair bit of support there... and not so much stuff to sort through!

Gold card is old school. Root your phone using unREVoked 3 and install an ext3 partition on your card. Thats it.

I just this weekend took the dive and rooted my Desire and installed the latest T-Mod ROM. Its the DesireHD Froyo ROM with Australian APN's etc included. It is rock solid for me so far and better battery life than my Stock Telstra Froyo ROM. All I wanted was to get rid of the Telstra crap and get more internal memory back, so if thats all your after this is the ROM for you. Click here for the Whirlpool page on this ROM . You can always experiment with different ROMS like MIUI later.

Goto T-Mod For HTC Desire for instructions on how to root.

The only issue I had was with creating an ext3 parition on my SDcard. I followed the instructions on the T-Mod site to the letter but stuffed it up. Trouble is you never know its right until you try install a A2SD type ROM. Follow the instructions but to a clean format of your card. Don't try to resize the existing partition. Reformat the entire card > format it all as FAT32 > Shrink it FROM THE RIGHT to provide the size ext3 partition you want (512 to 1024MB) > create the ext3 partition. The ext3 partition must appear AFTER the main partition on the GUI.

I used the GPARTED LIVE CD it works well. Another tip here though wait for Gparted to load and scan your drives then plug in your mobile as Mass storage and rescan the drives. I had it plugged in when booting and more oftern than not Gparted could not see it. Don't reboot and reboot like I did.

Feel free to PM me any questions you may have. G.Inferno has more experience on this then me.

MIUI looks and feels awesome. I had it running for a day but it was buggy as hell. I think it was due to the fact that my SDcard didn't have the right ext3 partition setup so I cant completely blame the ROM. I decided when fixing the SDcard (which requires a new ROM flash anyway) to load the T-Mod ROM as I didn't want to risk another buggy MIUI installation.

I'm running a custom Desire HD ROM on my HD2, runs fantastic. Have the overclock kernel (1ghz up to 1.56ghz) as well. Everything works fine on it. Also if you have a Desire HD ROM based, install Clockwork Recovery Mod and then use it to install this:

Multiupload.com - upload your files to multiple file hosting sites! for a really nice font.

If you dont like it change it back with this one Multiupload.com - upload your files to multiple file hosting sites!.

    Font is from the ROM I'm running [20 JAN][ZIP] RAFDROID HD 2.3 [DATA2EXT][Kern:MDJ 10.3][RMNET][FASTEST FULL DESHD!] - xda-developers
