Local Routing on Internode DSLAMs in Darwin.

Theres no thread on this, Alice Springs, who cares.

So the point is that local termination might not happen the day the DSLAM's turn on, but we do see the merits of it and we're chewing on that right now. Meantime, its really not a 'shame' that we aren't doing something that (until the RBBP backhaul is installed and running) is technically meaningless.
Obviously even with local termination on Agile DSLAM port services in the Darwin area, the outcome will not be significantly different for customers in the short term, with the specific exception of customer-to-customer traffic between customers on Agile DSLAM ports.
And all the Telstra port based DSL traffic will obviously keep emerging in Adelaide because Telstra have no apparent plans to do anything except to treat Darwin area exchanges as the technical equivalent of (very) long distance Adelaide suburbs.
Whether our doing this might help to lead to other providers doing local termination in the NT is obviously up to them – we'd be all for it, but its up to other providers to decide whether to use the new backhaul to put their own DSLAMSs in.
Other than iiNet, who have a few of their DSLAM deployments there, I'm not sure many (or any?) other provider has elected to make a local DSLAM investment in the NT at all, thus far.
    Regards,
    Simon

maybe, maybe, maybe local routing, in the maybe possible future.

Right now the smart money is on it going ahead – I'd say thats about 95% likely.
Whether that happens before or after the Agile DSLAM builds go live is not clear right now – because there are lead times on all of the things concerned (design, purchase, installation, testing, commissioning); We'd be setting up what amounts to an entire new state/territory PoP from scratch, and thats somewhat non-trivial.
One rather cool technical benefit once its done – Darwin will be linked into our national network in two directions, not just one... we'll have RBBP links to both Adelaide *and* Brisbane, which will provide both routing diversity and a shorter data path to QLD than you might have otherwise expected.
So there's a lot to like about doing this, and again, I consider it very likely that we will.
I will also indicate that asking every few days won't have any positive impact on our planning processes concerned and has no bearing on the likelihood of us doing it.
We think its sensible, has multiple advantages, and we're just costing it up properly at this point so we can ensure that we understand the size of the investment. We already have back of the envelope numbers and on the basis of those, we'll be doing it unless the detailed numbers contain some unexpected major expense.
    Thanks,
    Simon

No announcement for the RBBP being completed.

But the party at parliament house is 7th of December apparently.

Fiber does not magically just get turned on once the end to end connections have been terminated and installed. There is days of testing each fiber and labeling each one from each end point.

For the connection between Darwin and Brisbane / Townsville there would be hundereds of individual testing and labeling of a cable that size. It is not a simple task to undertake and takes time and testing before it then can be sold at any level to any wholesale customer.

they've been in testing for at least weeks now, the connection itself was completed a fair while back.

I'm going to assume you're aiming this at me. In which case: you're not educating me on anything, you're just flapping gums with irrelevant information.

Backhaul from exchanges to nextgen interconnect for internode DSLAMs is apparently not completed though.
