Steve Jobs loses his fight against cancer

Apple has announced its former chief executive Steve Jobs has died.

Mr Jobs, who stepped down recently as chief executive, had been suffering from pancreatic cancer.

Apple's board of directors today released a statement confirming Mr Jobs's death:

"We are deeply saddened to announce that Steve Jobs passed away today," the statement read.

"Steve's brilliance, passion and energy were the source of countless innovations that enrich and improve all of our lives. The world is immeasurably better because of Steve.

"His greatest love was for his wife, Laurene, and his family. Our hearts go out to them and to all who were touched by his extraordinary gifts."

As much as I hate Apple they forced some serious competition into the market and it will be a much sadder place because of it.

Sad to see Steve Jobs go as he was a visionary in the computing world.

Also helped Pixar get off the ground too for those that have forgotten.

I never "liked" Jobs, from what I knew of him. And there's a lot I don't like about Apple. But credit where it's due - his impact on personal and mobile computing has been profound.
