OK, so we all know that the tournaments have have had some problems in the past, but I am not here to talk about those.

What I am posting about is some solutions to these problems.

What I would like to see is more organisation of the tournaments, with them starting on time, and running the full course.

Some things I have thought of to help facilitate this are:

A Web-based interface at the LAN.

This would state the current games being played (not neccesarily tourneys, this can be used to list all games at the LAN), and upcoming games, and the times they are scheduled to start.
This interface would list which teams are playing in the comp, and on which server.
It would show the ladder, and current standings.
It would also show the times of upcoming matches, so team members can check it for when they are scheduled to play, and on which server.
This could also be linked into a registration page, where people can register themselves, and teams for the tourney on the day.
This could even be used to order pizza from the comkfort of your seat, with

Im sure there are other things that this could be used for.

To get people interested in playing in a comp, I think prizes are a definite must.
To facilitate this, we could introduce some sort of entry fee, with people who register before the LAN getting a discount.
All the money could then be rolled into cash prizes, or to pay for PC bits whatever.

When registering for DGA, there should be a page where a comp registration notice comes up. Those not interested can skip past this, but people who actually want to play in an upcomming comp can register themselves/their team right then and there.

I want you guys to post anything (constructive) that you can think of.

As you may, or may not be aware, I live with Milenko, and he has offered to be the spokesman for us little people.
DGA is having an admin meeting this weekend, and he is willing to take along whatever we come up with. He gets on well with the admins, but is not one of them himself.

Are you guys happy for Milenko to do this, or do you want me/some other ICDUean to take it to them?

Hope to hear lots of good ideas from this, as I really want the comps to happen, and they need fixing.

RakeR (and i) are working on this.. RakeR already has all the admissions and e-tickets and gamer details in a web-based database.. now we've nearly added pizza orders.. where you can order online, then once you pay, i can approve it and add it to the big order..

so i will forward any suggestions to raker.

also, on the rego for comp when rego for event thing.. good good..

i think you register your interest then the 'clan leader' is responsible for adding you to their team.. also requires facility to make new clan, appoint leader, etc.

i get on well with the admins too. i think i'll be on the committee before long. (doing this pizza stuff among other things has gotten me brownie points)

if i see RakeR i'll ask him if i can attend the meeting.

Do we need help sourcing prizes? I have some ideas on who we could approach.

How about we suggest a comp that goes over several lans and has some decent prizes at the end. Ie each time a team wins it gets points, Then the top 3 teams each lan get a few more points. Then do they same for each time the comp is run. Then the team with the most points wins at the end. Soemthing like this anyway. Would have to do it for a popular game (cs not included)

Probably won't happen as people won't be able to alwyas show up. But if we can slowly begin to take comps like ones in more physical sports where players try to show up and are dedicated to their team it may work. Also allow for some reserves etc.

Im sure if there are decent prizes then it could happen some time in the future.

You would be better off smashing your head into a pane of glass.

Hmm might put this in my sig:

"CS, Get the same effect by smashing head into a pane of glass"

Just as an update, it looks as though I will be going to the meeting this weekend, and I may end up helping Rec running the tourneys, but this hasnt been fully decided yet, so is a bit premature.

    this one is more accurate

"CS. A lot like staring at a pane of glass. For a really long time."
