I noticed this post by a DC Developer in their forums today. (Posted a while ago though)

For the highend videocard users that were unhappy with the vehicle LOD switching that was implemented in .7, I am going to tell you how to disable the majority of this and run the game with higher detail models.

WARNING: These changes will affect BF1942, DC and ALL other mods. Please do not complain about framerate issues if you apply these changes. THIS IS NOT RECOMMENDED FOR LOWEND OR MIDRANGE SYSTEMS.

    1) Go into your ".../mods/bf1942/settings" folder and make sure you backup the file "VideoDefault.con" by copying it and renaming it to "VideoDefault.con_old"

    2) Now open "VideoDefault.con" in notepad and make the following edits:

    renderer.globalLodRadius 20
    renderer.globalLodRadiusScaleFactor 0

(the original values for these are:
    renderer.globalLodRadius 1
    renderer.globalLodRadiusScaleFactor 5 )

    3) Save your changes and you should be good to go. If you want to revert back you can copy and paste the original file from another folder or you can rename your files. There are many ways to do revert back as long as you keep a backup file (or use the "rem" feature in the .con file which some of you may be familiar with).

    ---------
Additional info you should be aware of:

    - these changes do not affect terrain or building/static mesh LODs afaik.

    - there will still be LOD (level of detail) switching from the hi-res model to the simple (low detail) model at long distances. Short and medium distances should show the hi-res model without any switching.

    - certain parts such as wheels, blades, rockets, etc will still disappear at their original distances. The same applies to rendering effects such as transparency and environment mapping.

Although a lot of the complaints about the lods in .7 have been exaggerated imo, you now can edit the level of detail in the vehicle models so that they look even better than .6. have fun
    I will try it tonight.
