Why do some people think corecting spelling is a witty retort?
This will be in the DGA mag... yet again thanks guys and tn1 needs a special mention.. THANK YOU!!!
The Desert Combat competition at the DGA 31 was a very entertaining one. It began with 6 teams. The game: Desert combat. The plan: To steal their flag! But it wasn’t that easy...
First map was El Alamein. It was icdu1 vs. swat. Icdu1 won this one with a final score of 2-0. Swat almost scored a point, with the icdu1 team gunning him down just meters from the flag.
The second round was between icdu2 and tn1 on Wake Island. The first round ended in a nil all draw. A second round was required to decide who was greater. Team tn1 came out of the bloody battle on top and won with a tidy margin of 2-1. I did not see the match myself but I heard it was very good. Both teams preformed very well on an already difficult map.
The third battle was between WombatCombat and G@mers . The map: Basra nights.
Watching this game was actually very entertaining. The Strategies that WombatCombat played out were well thought out. However with only 5 people on the team the success of the strategies was weakened.
The G@mers strategies on the other hand were based on a “just run and get the flag” mentality. This cunning use of instinct ended with G@mers winning 2-0.
Icdu1 then played G@mers in the battle of Desert Shield.
This time the planned and effective team of icdu1 managed to keep the team of G@mers away from the flag, and somehow managed to seize 2 points in the process!
As the battle came to an end the final score was 2-0 with icdu1 the victors.
It was none the less a great map to play and G@mers managed to keep icdu1 very much on their toes the entire time.
Then came the finals…
With G@mers pulling out there was no one for tn1 to play in the semis, leaving a surprise automatic entry for tn1.
The map was Basra nights. icdu1 and tn1 teams had yet to meet another team in battle on this level. It would prove to be a challenge for both teams as their skills lie heavily in vehicles and air support.
Both teams executed almost identical strategies and yet each had their own cunning tricks for getting the flag. Each team had 3 men attacking with 2 men defending. This was bound to make the battle an evenly matched and bloody one. The first round ended with a draw of nil all.
In the second round, strategies were thoroughly examined and re-panned for both teams. Yet when it came to match time both teams seemed to have similar strategies again. 4 men attacking with 1 man defending. This kind of game play was fast paced and aggressive, yet made it so much easier for the enemy to overwhelm and take the flag.
Once again the game ended in a draw of nil all When it was down the last 20 seconds the icdu flag was almost captured.. It was just 2 meters from tn1s base with an icdu soldier shot the runner in the back while in mid air then landed on the flag, died, and still managed to return it to the icdu flag point. In the end idcu1 won the game as they captured the flag more than team tn1.
So final placing looked like this
1st = Icdu1
2nd = tn1
3rd = icdu2
There will be another DC comp in the future... I will hope to see you there...
