Me and a friend from school are trying to organise a LAN party at OCC. Since this will be our first, hosted LAN party, can people give me some hints/tips about how to host one or is it pretty much straight forward? While we are on the subject, is there any way to kinda of monitor other peoples computers to make sure they are not abusing others and so forth? cheers

The network side of things isn't my area to deal with - maybe ask coco/Raker if they have the time to give you a hand on that side.

As for everything else, well how many do you plan to attend? Find a rough figure a little bigger than what the "real" number is likely to be, have say 16 are intrested then cater for 20.

Some sturdy tables, seating (while not essential) will help. Err I don't know what OCC is sorry, is it a place with decent power and aircon? If so good

Make a list of things for gamers to bring, most importantly their own cat5 cable/s, power board. That way you won't have to lend out stuff and its their responcibility.

If you setup the tables and network early, then you can be a little more prepared for other probs that may arrise. Seeing as it seems to be a small lan (which is a good start) then you shouldn't have too many difficulties with much other than network. And if setup well with some decent switches you should be all good.

roughly around 32 people will be atending. 8 tables with 4 people to a table, so does catering for 40 sound good? and OCC is O'loughlin and it is airconded.

3 16port switchs, using the uplink of 2 switches connect to the other 1.

There is no way to monitor the other people computers.

Set ip's start at 192.168.0.50 and go up from there.

Leave the below 50 ips for the servers you plan to use.

Keep things simple and you will do fine, get difficult and you will find yourself in trouble. cool

yeah we figured that only year 10's can come coz the years 8's will have a windge about not being old enough to play m15+ games and such. But me and this other dude hosting it, we will get there as soon as OCC opens up so we can try get it all set up. But there is this dude who will definatly come and screw with everyones computer. He has like no friends ( by that i mean his friends now are trying to shun him off) and is a total geek and tries to be kool by hanging with the hot chicks form our class. What can i do about him? I mean you can't exactly tell him to f**k off. What happens at DGA meetings or whatever if there is some dude like that.

32 people from year 10 only? Damn why do I have a feeling the next Evo is going to be huge!

Ahh what to do with him, well you could tell him to f*ck off it does work lol. If your so worried about him don't let him have access to your lan. Not really that hard to say no and seeing as you dont seem to like him then its easy But generally not much you can do there are people like this everywhere
