DQL
Darwin Quake League
I've been considering the possibility of creating a ladder based tourney around Quake I for awhile now. I am posting this document in the hopes that I can guage support and accept ideas. I'll try and structure this document in such a way that sections can be easily refered to and commented on.
This tourney will be run continuously, and I will make an effort to have results available online. I will be providing a server to run matches on, however I currently have no problems with matches being organised elsewhere provided that a demo is recorded of the battle.
The game
The game will be Quake 1 rocket arena
Tournament Structure
The tournament will be ladder based, with each player ranked based on their score. Each player will start with 1000 points. Additional points must be "stolen" from other players.
Score calculation
After a match is played, the winner gains some of the losers points, fractions to be rounded down.
[code:1:8bc59ddf9d] (Winners Total Match Score / Total Match Score) * (Losers score / 5)[/code:1:8bc59ddf9d]
This equation will allow a maximum of 20% of the losers score to be taken.
Challenges
To be able to challenge a player, they must meet at least one of the following criteria
[list:8bc59ddf9d][*:8bc59ddf9d] Be within the range of 60% and 140% your score (eg. if your score is
1000, you may challenge all people in the range of 600-1400)
[*:8bc59ddf9d] Be within two ladder positions up or down of you[/list:u:8bc59ddf9d]
While acceptance of challenges won't be mandatory, all participants in this tournament are encouraged to accept them
Map selection
Two maps will be selected, one by the challenger and one by the challengee. At this time all maps provided with the official RA map-pack are valid, with the exception of gearpr0n (as gear8 provides an identical layout without the potentially offensive content).
Battles
On each map, contestants play until one reaches 10 frags. Demos will be recorded (if I can set up serverside recording of MVDs this will be automated).
Configuration
For now, there will be no limitation on configuration file options. This may be altered in future to deal with potential cheating issues.
Client Programs
For now, the following Quake\QuakeWorld clients are approved for use in the tournament
[list:8bc59ddf9d][*:8bc59ddf9d]Original iD Software clients (qwcl/glqwcl)
[*:8bc59ddf9d]FuhQuake 0.27
[*:8bc59ddf9d]QuakeForge 0.5.2[/list:u:8bc59ddf9d]
If you use a client program that is not in the list, please post a url to obtain it from and if it seems legit I'll add it.
If you're interested in participating in this tournament, please post below. Also, if you have feedback regarding this tournament idea, please post below. If you have random abusive or irrelevant comments to post, start them in flame wars or better yet, send them to /dev/null
EDIT: removed a few misplaced line endings.
