Hah, didn't even end up going - that was a waste of $40.

I couldn't get Elle up in time for the cab, she was way too tired. And I couldn't be arsed heading off by myself, so jumped on voice-comms with Ronan, Dan & Nismo and watched it at home.

Yeah, there's no denying it was supremely disappointing, but I think people are being too harsh.

    a) even if we played our best, a draw would have been a triumph.

    b) Pim understood our chances, so played an unusual, untested formation without a couple of our big guns. It was risky, and it didn't work.

    c) playing Germany is impossible enough, but playing them a man down is suicide for a team like ours. In all honesty I'm surprised it wasn't 6-0.

    d) that handball didn't get penalised because it shouldn't have. Stop complaining.

    e) Cahill's tackle WAS reckless. Yes in actuality it was harmless, but when you slide tackle a player who doesn't have the ball from behind, you must be prepared for the ref to take the hardest stance on it.

    f) we actually had some really good periods of play. Our most cohesive moments were actually a man down facing a 2-0 deficit - like the first 10 mins of the second half. There's promise there.

I think if the boys aren't too heart broken, we have a genuine chance at taking down Serbia and Ghana. They are now both must-win matches, so should be very exciting.

I agree somewhat .. watched the replay, and in reality we are lucky we didnt get pole axed more then we did. Beyond a few glimmer moments Germany were all over us.

However i dont agree that playing a untested formation was the call, maybe in a game that doesnt mean anything, however in your first game, which we lost and now we need to win both of the other matches so we are playing catch up footy. Thats a silly decision to make.

Looking at the red card, it was a yellow card at most, compared to all the other games so far in the comp. definetly not a look away moment but not worthy of a red card.

I guess having cahill not play the next game it forces pim to play kennedy in the forwards where he should have been instead of a short undersized cahill.

I thought Lucas Neil was a bit too interested in complaining to anyone who would listen about offside decisions that were never there.

so long as we can all pay them out if they missed an earlier thread on the same topic!
