Match of the Day ? Big John Wanted To Go On
Despite appearing physically exhausted after playing for seven hours and six minutes, 6?10?? John Isner did not want play to be suspended at 59-59 all in the deciding set of his first-round match with Nicolas Mahut. With the light fading at 9:10pm, Mahut asked to come off. But in a discussion with the supervisor, Isner appeared to ask if the match could, instead, be resumed under the roof and the lights on Centre Court. Having held four match points, including one in the final game, the American clearly hoped he could win the match without it being carried into a third day. The supervisor?s decision was final, though, and play will resume on Court 18 on Thursday, beginning not before 3:30pm.
