    ABC launching 24 hour news channel

    Perfect. No need to sit through another hour with 7, 9 or 10.

    The ABC are rumoured to be set to launch their new 24 hour news channel, 'ABC News 24', in a matter of days.

    In preparation for this new and exciting channel, the ABC have been making noticeable moves over the past few days to the structure of their current channel line-up and we want to ensure all IceTV members are well prepared.

    ABC News 24 will be the first and only dedicated channel for breaking news and current affairs to be available an Australian digital free-to-air television (aka 'freeview').

    The new channel has officially replaced ABC HD and will be made available on channel 24 across all regions. Channel 20 ('ABC HD'), has also been removed.

    Yeah it's been on since tuesday or wednesday i think. Most people should need to do a rescan of their dvb channels, and channel 20 will change to 24.

    Is just showing a promo clip on loop atm afaik. Apparently it will remain 720p , even though the bulk, if not all content will be SD.


    They haven't managed to update the EPG PIDs though, they're still indicating ABC HD programs.

    yeh just what we need another useless 24 hour tv news channel. Why take the HD channel?

    Another? on free to air? The point is to leverage the ABC brand as an unbiased-by-law news provider.

    The HD channel was very underutilised, and it's difficult to launch a new channel without taking channel bandwidth from somewhere.

    I didnt have to rescan the tv to get the channel. Im not sure its a feature on my tv or they just renamed one of the abc channels.

    So far the promo looks very clean and the reception is awesome, i seem to get alot of cutouts with the HD channels.
    About time they added channels i will actually watch unlike that rubbish abc3 earlier this year

    They essentially just renamed the ABC HD channel, but they also moved the channel from 20 to 24. On most TVs/STBs i've seen, channel 24 won't work until you rescan, but channel 20 will continue to work until you do so. It's the same channel either way.
