Thumbs up Star Trek Online - Season 3

Season 3 of Star Trek Online is just around the corner (December 2nd), and Cryptic have posted a fairly comprehensive list of the season's additions:

Season Three: Genesis | Star Trek Online Official Site

Some notable elements of the new update are:

    * User generated content via the Foundry - this was GOING to be fully released with Season 3, but they've decided to only release it to the beta server on Season 3's release date. Lots more work they want to put into it before they push it live. From the screenshots they've provided so far though, it looks like an excellent system.

    * Item sets are coming - mainly as drops from STFs but they're also adding a full set to the crafting area (one item at the end of each crafting branch). These items actually provide visual changes to your ship as well (if you wish, otherwise the visual aspect can be disabled as per player kits and armour).

    * The ability to replay previous missions is coming as well - accessible from the Captain's ready room aboard your own ship (nice to see them using the ship interiors for actual gameplay now).

    * Klingons are getting some major love. They will now have the capacity to craft via consoles on Kronos. But the coolest part is, while they will now be able to scan anomalies as per the Feds, they can also go on raids in the Pi Canis sector to TAKE their shit. Awesome

    * Sector space is no-longer a neon extravaganza:

Cryptic have also committed to at least 2 more of the Series mission sets which have proven fantastically popular. The Breen and Devidian missions were really well written and if they continue in that vein, coupled with some of the other updates they've hinted at (FPS ground combat, Starbases for Fleets, Romulan playable faction, etc), they will have an absolute winner of an MMO here. STO has come a *long* way since March, let alone launch day.
