    Homer was a dirty old bugger :P - Iliad

    Just found this while reading thru it.

    I will give him twenty iron cauldrons and twelve strong horses that have won races and carried off prizes. Rich, indeed, both in land and gold is he that has as many prizes as my horses have won me. I will give him seven excellent workwomen, Lesbians, whom I chose for myself when he took Lesbos- all of surpassing beauty. I will give him these, and with them her whom I erewhile took from him, the daughter of Briseus;

    Ehehe gotta love language progression

    LOL the word had to come from somewhere... maybe that's why Lesbos was defeated so easily... the women were all hanging about licking labia and therefore had no time to feed the men who, due to hunger, could not fight back

    (incidentally - lesbian is derived from something to do with the place.. some song or something about love that was taken literally)

    [edit:] BTW, if you're looking for more ancient stuph to read.. try books on Babylonian mythology, there is some seriously cool stuff in there (not to mention YET ANOTHER Jesus Christ (according to the Bible) parallel).

    Babylonian and Summarian stuff is awesome

    My regard for the Summarians is very high, knew about all 9 planets, knew we revolved around the sun, knew about celetial constellations, fully admitted that their gods where just giant aliens from the 10th planet in our solar system ( hmm where have i heard that before ) and generally were pretty cool, and thats 5000bc

    yeah i love it.. was it Tiamet whose cloven corpse became the land and the sea? The last book I read about the subject has clouded my knowledge of it.. it was written in the early 1800s and had a lot of conjecture that I recall being wrong compared to stuff in newer books I'd read before it.. Muddy the waters of my feeble brain it did

    actually - hah - Coco, if you're not an anime person, or haven't seen Neon Genesis Evangelion, check it out, the whole series is based around "what if" the babylonian myths were true - or at least, their end-of-the-world prophecies (plus a dash of christianity here and there)

    yeah not long ago - they've started post work on the new series now too.. suspect it's going to follow some of the other characters and they're hinting the end will be redone to match what they ran out of budget to do originally.
