It has been almost 12 years since StarCraft, and the Blizzard hype machine has been in full swing since the announcement of its sequel, StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty, at BlizzCon all those years ago. Well the Hyperion has finally landed, and we've spent the last week hammering away at the single player campaign. There's only 38 hours left until the alpha for Natural Selection 2 is released and the prices for pre-order go up. The Alpha will be available to those who have purchased the Special Edition Pre-order for $39.95 USD, which also includes an all black Marine armour when playing online and the developers' eternal gratitude. The special edition will no longer be available for purchase after the 26th.

With mere weeks until a retail release, StarCraft II beta servers are live once again, and it's reported that retail copies have been seen in the wild. To get back into the action, fire up your beta install and proceed to download the 550MB patch. Be sure to check out the patch notes....

The game trailers just keep on coming, and this one in particular is sure to garner some real excitement. Blizzard are no stranger to creating captivating trailers with stunning CG, and this StarCraft II trailer is no exception....

Another couple days of the StarCraft II beta not enough for you? No problem! Blizzard have pushed the close date from May 31st to June 7th. As planned, once ended, we'll be without the beta until just a week or two before retail lands - at which point we'll be granted access once again.....

Blizzard have delivered official word that the StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty beta is to wrap up this month, on May 31st. "The beta test will be unavailable for several weeks while we make some hardware and software configuration changes in preparation for the final phase of the beta test and the release of the game." What's that? 'Final phase' of the beta test? It turns out that we won't have to wait for the retail release on July 27th to play again, as the beta will be re-opened a fortnight before it hits store shelves, approximately. If you're already sold on StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty, head on over to the Game or EB Games website as you'll be granted beta access simply by pre-ordering. But, if you're still undecided, this is the perfect opportunity to secure some game time prior to release. As per our last StarCraft II key give-away, one lucky GU Premium subscriber will be selected at random, and handed a StarCraft II beta key this Saturday morning.

Blizzard have sent out a press release finally declaring the date that we can all run out and pick-up our StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty pre-orders! The highly anticipated RTS will be available world-wide on July 27th. They've also noted that "players will also be able to purchase StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty directly from Blizzard Entertainment shortly after the retail launch." What exactly this means I'm unsure, but I'm expecting it probably means you'll be able to purchase it via Battle.net and simply download the title from your account management area, as per the beta....

For anyone who hasn't pre-ordered Starcraft II but is keen on jumping into the beta, no-strings-attached, we've got a single beta key to give away to 1 lucky community member. Following in the footsteps of Gamestop, EB Games is now offering beta access to Australians who pre-order Starcraft II. This is great news for people who want to get in on some beta action, but wouldn't want to wait the addition time required for your game to be posted from the United States. Beta keys for pre-orders will begin to be dispatched on April 27th....

Desperate to get into the Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty beta? You'll have to pay a premium to do so, but by pre-ordering through Gamestop.com, you can! However, a polite heads-up to the scheemers out there; once you've placed your order you cannot cancel it.

The game is priced at $60 USD for the standard edition or $100 USD for the collectors edition, and shipping to Australia costs an extra $30 USD. The only real downside here is that you'll wait additional days to play the retail release, as shipping from the USA obviously isn't quite as quick as heading down to your local GAME or EB Games....
