ID:	602243While it's barely been over a week since Season 2 was decided and NesTea took home the first place prize of US$89,000 we can already get straight back to watching the world's elite Starcraft 2 players doing what they do best when GSL Season 3 kicks off tonight.

In terms of numbers, the resurgent Zerg players will be dominant. Only 16 Zergs made it to the round of 64 in Season 1 and 15 in Season 2. However Season 3 sees a staggering 27 Zerg players enter the final rounds of the competition, taking the Lion's share of the places.

    The show starts tonight 7.30pm Darwin / 8.30pm Adelaide / 9pm EST.

Get along to www.gomtv.net and register a free account to watch the standard def stream live when the broadcast starts. You can also buy a day pass for $2 which will let you watch tonight's games in HQ if you have enough bandwidth.

Or you can buy a season pass for $20 and watch all the streamed games live in HQ as well as have access to the VODs of every game... FOR ETERNITY!! Which is pretty good value considering eternity is a long time and you get potentially over 200 games of top-level, professionally commentated Starcraft 2 both live and in VOD form over the next month.

Full schedule for the round of 64 is here.

Yeah, there was a significant patch that came out during the last few rounds of Season 1 to improve the Roach and subsequent patches to nerf Terran Reapers a bit to discourage their early harrass. Since then Zerg have been powering ahead in tournaments and it would seem to be at the expense of Protoss. While the number of Zerg qualifiers has jumped from 16 in Season 1 to 27 in Season 3, Protoss qualifiers have dropped from 27 to 12. Obviously Blizzard still have more work to do. Meanwhile Terran is more consistent having had 21, 29 and then 24 respectively.

Cool, I'll just stick to Terran for now then.

Oh yeah - I just remembered that perhaps the main thing was that several key Zerg buildings got a big boost to hit points making it harder for drops to take out things like Baneling Nests and Spires. That's helped a lot.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive was just updated again, making a number of changes and additions to the game. The default map has been switched from Inferno to Train, which appears to be a far better recreation than Inferno, apart from the fog issue. There are also a bunch of new weapons: the Para, the TEC-9 Pistol, the SG 552 (pictured), and the AUG....

  • Counter-Strike: Global Offensive beta impressions
    by rec
I've been shooting some face in the CS:GO beta for the first time this evening, and there's quite a bit to talk about. I should preface this impressions article with the note that while I used to play at a national level, it has been years since I've delved into any CS in any serious capacity. I'm sure there will be a number of current day elitists out there who disagree with my opinions, but I'm not claiming this as gospel, so append as much or as little weight to these opinions as you care to....
