  • Orson Scott Card is writing for Firefall

FirefallIt has been announced that Orson Scott Card, the writer of legendary sci-fi novels Ender's Game and its sequel Speaker for the Dead, will be working with developer Red 5 Studios on their upcoming MMO shooter Firefall. "I think the game is a great one," Card said. "I was delighted to be a part of it."

Featured in the latest Firefall developer diary, Card continues to explain "when they started talking to me about the story line of Firefall, when I looked at the material they had already developed, is that it is really fascinating to be dealing with essentially a post apocalyptic, in fact post double-apocalyptic world, in which it's not a bunch of people obsessing over water or gasoline or whatever.

"It's not Mad Max, it's not 'the world ended', well the world did end, but we're maintaining our high technology - we're moving forward with it. We're still civilised human beings, we just happen to have a whole bunch of extremely dangerous monsters coming at us that need shooting."

Card will be working with Red 5 developing the entire back story of Firefall, while he will also be working with his daughter, Emily Card, on creating a free Firefall Manga. UDON Entertainment have been charged with taking the Manga they write and bringing it to life with their brilliant art.

The default map has been switched from Inferno to Train, which appears to be a far better recreation than Inferno, apart from the fog issue. There are also a bunch of new weapons: the Para, the TEC-9 Pistol, the SG 552 (pictured), and the AUG....

I've been shooting some face in the CS:GO beta for the first time this evening, and there's quite a bit to talk about. I should preface this impressions article with the note that while I used to play at a national level, it has been years since I've delved into any CS in any serious capacity. I'm sure there will be a number of current day elitists out there who disagree with my opinions, but I'm not claiming this as gospel, so append as much or as little weight to these opinions as you care to....
