  • PC gaming booming, Steam hits 5 million concurrent users

That's a new record, set with a substantial margin. Last September Steam set its previous record with 4 million users online at the same time. Comparatively, for the sake of fan-boy arguments, the highest number of concurrent players on Xbox LIVE was 3.3 million users on November 8, 2011.

    Of course, these numbers don't account for all PC gamers, just those on Steam at that moment. A breakdown reveals that the most played game at the time of the record was Skyrim, with nearly 120,000 of those 5 million slaying dragons. In second place was Counter Strike with 72,000 and third place was Football Manager 2012.
